Morans run amuk on LRC!! You have no idea of the monetized value of breaking a record. This is a business. The PV or HJ are one of the few events that allow incremental improvements that allow for major bonuses. Do you not think that if Usain Bolt could have eased up and broken the 100/200 marks at .01, he would have done it? The same for Eliud Kipchoge in the marathon at 1 second at a time. Now unless a meet promoter is going to offer Mondo a $5M to go 6.40m to shatter his mark, well okay but then the idiot press would always point out a 6.20m jump as "well off his WR" as if it was some failure. Morans.
I think he was amazing! It is so hard to focus and get the form just right on any given competition. Psychologically it is so hard to go beyond the record even if you’ve set it yourself. He can go even higher the images don’t lie. But will he stay strong and sharp enough to maintain his form? I think 6.50 is clearly possible for him.
Seriously. He is prodigy that has lived up to and exceeded the expectations. He is fast, lithe but strong and continues to adjust to bigger poles. He cleared the bar by a nice amount. I am not buying the celebrations afterwards. Again, it’s kind of expected and the poles he is using indicate what distance he can clear. I know he has to sell it but it all seems a bit much.
Actually the fact that he can "pick and choose" makes it even more exciting. Much easier said than done. If breaking the record 1 cm at a time was so "easy" or so "boring" why else haven't so many others done it this way (Bubka is the only other one). Mondo will "play" with the record all the wayup to the'28 Games in LA. Imagine a miler who could run 3:44-3:43 every race, is capable of running 3:42, but once or twice year throws down a 3:43 at a big event to keep the fans happy.
Unidentified "Rojo edits" are a form of theft. Here an alert LRC poster brings important news to the website not previously reported, and now we have a notation about Rojo's edit. But what was the edit? It must have changed the meaning of the original in some way, but the reader is not informed of that. At least put the edit in bold or in italics.
Mondo has managed to take all excitement out of his world record achievements because it's become so clear that he's gaming the system.

"Mondo Duplantis cleared 6.22 metres tonight to add one centimetre..." The lead sentence of the story today, blah blah blah, is the same lead sentence you could have used six times in the last three years (two of which could be removed for Covid).
Go read about a guy named Sergey Bubka.
Incredible Vaulter. Bubka would incrementally increase the WR because every time he broke it, he got like a $50,000 bonus or something.
He famously no-heighted the 1992 Olympics after winning the Gold in 1988. Like 5 years ago (??) I spoke to a guy who vaulted against him. He said after the 1988 Gold he got cocky and would take longer than than the 1:30 time limit, basically doing whatever he wanted. 1992 Barcelona came around and he couldn't get used to the time clock again and flubbed his first three attempts to bow out.
Both Puma and Redbull are not giving Mondo a bonus every time he breaks the record. The way contracts are written in the past decade is that you get one bonus per year. Now, the meetings on the other hand are likely providing WR bonuses, so there is that but it’s usually not that much (relative).
My issue with both the men’s and women’s vault is that it’s just become boring with the same players over and over again and the outcome is generally the same. It’s no longer the exciting event that it once was. It feels like a traveling circus. Once you’ve seen it once, you don’t need to see it again. And it all feels a bit scripted rather than a competition between competitors.

I was the OP. Not a big deal. All I posted was a link to an article about it. No video or anything. His edit actually improved the original post by including the video.

The shame about this approach is that we may never actually see what he is truly capable of. If he keeps just adding 1cm at a time he may ultimately miss his peak performance as an athlete and instead of him reaching crazy, unfathonable heights like 6.50m he might end his career around 6.30m.

True. But he'll also end his career having earned a lot more money in a sport that generally doesn't pay it's athletes very well.
