This is a disgusting thread. Why tear down a man trying to make a late career comeback after major injury and surgery?
What is wrong with you people. Why don't you focus your negative energy elsewhere.v

Honestly Im still pissed about that December instagram post where his training buddy said Centro is in the best shape of his life. I should probably lighten up but Im not a fan of being lied to.
Centro too busy enjoying the “Australian spread” — this is just a training vacation. No doubt he shapes up in a couple of months when it matters.
Did lol at “Centrocels” though
Did you not see the names in the race? That was no low-key race.

Did they take his Gold medal away?
I do think the most negative thing was they were saying how slowly the race went out and the rabbit didn't do his job. Yet Matt was basically dropped on the first lap by the field running 60. Which probably isn't too surprising if he really just ran 1.56 for 800. But 2.22 for 1000 a little while is quite a bit better than he's running now.
No. Although people that say they don't take your Olympic titles away apparently don't know about the 1906 Olympics!!
Chef Ramzi is always so quick to make a hot take which most would have already assumed to be the case a year ago.
Going to play neutral party here. 4:06 off of a 1:56 not long ago actually isn't awful. Never ran a serious 8 but I reckon all the times I was in top shape I was in 156ish shape (1:58 pb), and ran 4:00 1500, 4:19 mile. Lots of HS'ers just ran their state meet and colleges ran conference meets. 1:56 and 4:06 do not align, so the 4:06 even by todays standards is a far superior performance.
This was not a good race for him or the two he beat. They needed to be in a race paced slower and kick off of it. They went out in 59 at the pacer/60 for the leaders which for the top guys was slow, then slowly cut it down. That second and especially the 3rd lap (57.xx) would have done damage to someone with his current fitness.
That being said he was on the For the Kudos podcast with some Aussies and his approach has been fairly laid back, taking things one step at a time. Not proclaiming this insane comeback, but the baby steps needed to get back to making the US team next year.
4:06 isn't bad for a runner-up NYC marathoner
He was dropped on the first lap and over 11 seconds behind a 16 year old.
Ironically isn't this the exact same pace of his olympic gold race. Maybe if he can jog 800m and still average 4:06 pace by finishing fast, then he will be sipping champagne at the top of the Eiffel Tower in 2024 with Bekele with gold medals around there neck's
Matt C is too young to suffer significantly from decrease in max heart rate which limits performances for 100m & 200m swimmers and 400m & 800m runners. He is too young for this much of a decrease in performance. Isn't Matt C self-coaching? Mike Tyson was never the same boxer after Constantine "Cus" D'Amato died. Some gals & guys are able to self-coach, others need a great coach and most need at least a good coach.
Centro has a history of phoning it in early in the season and timing his training to peak just in time for USAs and WC/OGs. If you look at his results over the years, there are multiple races where he just isn't even a factor and runs 3:37-40 (or worse) for 1500. But then he wins USAs and medals at WC/OGs.
I do think that Centro's best days are behind him and the odds of him making the team for WCs this year is pretty low. But I have seen too many "Centro is Done" threads over the years to count him out just because he shows up at the beginning of the season out of shape.
Why would anyone waste time sh!ttalking a guy who has already achieved the pinnacle within his career. He already won his gold medal. Anything he does now is just to get paid, and maybe see if he can tack on more successes to his legacy.
You need to remove this many exclamation points.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Not shocking at all. The dude is old.
If you add up all the Olympic Gold medals in that race it = 1
Guys, he comes to Australia early in the season frequently and is usually DNS or runs a slow time. Not sure if he has family here or something, or is filling a racing requirment for his sponsor while on holiday, but I am not worried. This happens so often.
11 - Matt Centrowitz, USA, 4:06.52
I have a hard on
Maybe centros competitive days are past him, maybe things will start clicking again, but either way he’s being payed fat dollar to train, wear Nikes newest clothes and gear, post on social media, and travel the world to race. In a sense he’s still winning.
No scholarship limits anymore! (NCAA Track and Field inequality is going to get way worse, right?)
