It's out there. It's not a @sponsorship. It's not the @dderall that makes little things like this bother you. It's not on your phone. Or your computer. Or your mom's basement...
I don't see any obsession among the posts so far. It seems like a reasonable question someone might have over kind of an odd thing anyone might have noticed in photos.
Why would it just be the USA U20 Men that cover up the logo? Literally so random and unnecessary imo. Probably a coach or someone told them to do it.
But imagine if gear check or officials DQ'd them for that. Then they'd have to also DQ GB, Kenya, Uganda, Canada... any others? That's like half the field.
As a coach of several US teams, WA/IAAF has warned USATF several times about the size of the Nike logo on team uniforms. (In a picture from Bathurst it is the first thing I noticed) In the past USATF has chosen to ignore their warnings. If an U/20 team leader was warned this time and they chose to cover it up, why didn't the seniors follow suit?

You're only going to cover it up if the official says "you have to cover this up."

That’s a problem, no? The fact you think somebody should be disqualified from a race for that? What is the point of this apparently corrupted ‘show’ of a foot race?
I agree it looks like a logo size issue. I was in the OT and they checked everything and measured it. Several guys in my race had to cover portions of logos with tape.

If no one checks, it won't be covered up.
In my case this happened twice. We were asked to present competition uniforms and warm up for inspection by the IAAF/WA prior to the tech meeting. There were several inspectors from different countries. We happened to be assigned to a Russian inspector in Belgium (World Half) that told me that this was the second time he had been shown illegal uniforms by the USA teams. The logo was too large. He pulled out a caliper to indicate the difference. At that time it was ok on our track suits but not ok on the team uniform. I had the athletes cover them with tape. I informed USATF in my race report. Their comment was "yes, this has happened before." Did they do anything about it? No, those same uniforms were used for the entire Olympiad. It is quite possible that there were a number of inspectors in Bathurst and the one doing the USA team saw the violation. You would have to ask Annmarie or Katie as team leaders what actually happened.
Why don't you call a singlet what it is its a vest
String vest, bullet proof vest. Well the bullet proof is more of a tank top but a singlet is a vest. A waistcoat is not a vest its a waitcoat!
Guide for Americans
Vest
T Shirt - you invented it call it right its a t shirt not a shirt
Shirt - you don't need to say button down shirt. Unless you a morman or a moroon you don't need to add button down they all have buttons

We had a mandatory gear check before the race at World Mountain Champs but it was more checking for required gear and weighing our jackets.
Why do they weigh the jackets?
I believe that Mountain running requires carrying warm clothing in case you break a leg in a remote area and get stranded. There is a weight minimum to ensure everyone has enough warm clothing.
I ran in the pro field of s marathon major last year and I can say the people doing the gear check didn’t really know what they were doing. They constantly kept debating with one another if a logo was considered too big or too flashy. They were even questioning the adidas stripes on the adidas pro kits that are worn every year. I wouldn’t be surprised if the officials at world xc were just as incompetent. They probably decided to cover the nike logo to play it safe although that particular singlet has been cleared time and time again at the most recent Olympics and World Championships.
Probably some 'official' said something to them and they got nervous and taped it over. But who is carrying tape around in their bag?
Wasn't there a similar dust-up at one of the club XC championships a number of years ago? Either logos were too big or too many.
The logos were too big. Nike spends tens of millions on a project and can’t manage the details, as usual.
Honestly my feeling is that Nike is very aware the logo is too big but doesn't care. How long has Nike been making the logo oversized? Go back and look--it seems like it goes back far as the 2012 or 2008 kits. It's a marketing statement for them to be making the kits and they want to make sure their logo is visible in every single photo, even if it's zoomed waaaay far out. The funny part to me is that the logo is like twice the size of the American flag on the opposite side, lol.
If IAAF/WA has only said something about it two or maybe three times, then that tells Nike that they can keep getting away with it. And it tells us that Nike still holds the entire sport by its balls. Even if WA said something to the US U20 team last weekend, do you really think they would have DQ'd them if they didn't cover the logo? Absolutely not. Like I said earlier, that would mean they'd have to DQ every single team with Nike uniforms. And every other team in every other race ran without the cover and didn't have any problems.
Realistically, this is probably a few WA officials who actually know the rules and pay attention. I applaud their efforts here, but it is evident that the higher ups in WA don't care about this at all and are preventing any repercussions from being put on Nike or the teams. Verbal warnings will be the only thing teams hear about this until WA decides to actually start enforcing rules.
