With the fast times being run in the states, I wonder if Jakob will run this 1500 on pure hate to prove to everyone that he's still the guy on top of the mid-distance mountain. I sure hope so.
Remember he got sick and didn't race New Year's road race in Barcelona. Then he was recovering slower than he thought. Norwegian media were talking about him scratching all indoor season, but Euros in Istanbul. I'm guessing he wants a start before the championships. My guess, his objective is to win, no time chasing.
He’s been dealing with a sore throat. He posted a week ago that training has gone better and he’s doing better. So I guess we can presume he’s feeling good if not close to fully fit. Again a marginal field where 3:32-33 should get it done.
Too bad Jakob didn’t opt for the 3000. Maybe because of this illness. Was there initially a mention that the 1500 was to be a wr attempt? Maybe he’s not up for that yet given his minor setback.
Originally, in December, the talk was him going for 3k WR in this meet.
Ing would annihilate Feischer and Nuguse in any distance available. His only present competition is the dopped up Africans.
Lot of posters are going to eat their words if Nuguse stays healthy over the next 6 months. It’s not Americans overhyping their own - he ran 3:47.38 with a 25.8 last 200 and crushed Hoare, Garcia Romo and Gourley. There’s nothing illusory about that.
Jakob running the 1500 here to avoid Fisher and running the 3000m in Spain to avoid Nuguse!
lol
lmao even

I don’t know about annihilate. Nuguse’s mile/3k PRs are a second slower than Jakob’s in each event and Fishers right with him in the 3k/5k (albeit Jakobs always going go out kick Fisher in those distances).
Fisher probably beats Jakob in a fast 10k though, probably not a slow, tactical one. Point being, while Jakob is a better runner than Fisher and Nuguse they’re both getting better and closing that gap significantly.

Many of us watched these last two Nuguse races. Reading the doubters it calls to mind a famous quote:

Every year its the same, but some people never eat their words, just rinse and repeat. Two years ago it was Hocker. Let them race before you guys crown a new champion.

I see Jakob beating Fisher in all compartiments, especially the longer distances.
Did you see what he made of the European Cross Country championships?
Assuming Jakob runs really really fast, I would also enjoy a delusional post-race interview where he talks about how "everyone doubted him" (just like Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Georgia football head coach).
And now Jonathan Marcus, too. Jakob can't possibly run that fast with that forward lean.
Fisher has run 26:33. It would be a mistake to count him out vs anyone but Cheptegei in the 10.
My grip about G. Fisher is that he is a runner that do technical planning, chronometer his times. Look at his past results, he never proved as a freak even in the US level:
