Tuohy was 3.2 seconds in front of her at the NCAA CC Championships. Katelyn was just as tired as Valby when she finished.
She didn't beat her by 25 seconds, she "finished" 3.2 seconds in front of her. They are both great runners. You guys really have too much time on your hands to go back and forth over what?

You do realize that Tuohy came from 12 seconds behind, to then win by 3 seconds, right?
If her pacing is right I would not be shocked 8:38-8:40.....the challenge is going to be unlike this race at BU there woon't be a pacer for anybody but the top 2-3 at Millrose so the rest are on their own.
4:24 mile converts to an 8:48.
Please tell that to Alicia Monson.
There are a lot of runners who have run around 8:48 and never scared 4:24
What happened to the most talented runner in the country? This is why YOU SHOULD NEVER BELIEVE ROJO'S NONSENSE!
Did you ever race? Who are you idiots? Everyone has races that they train through or use as training efforts or whatever. You idiots place so much emphasis on a relatively meaningless indoor competition. Why?
First, 8:49 is a pr and a very good time, #8 all-time, I think.
Second, her endurance is well ahead of her speed, so we'd expect her to do better the farther the race. Her 3k is better than her mile and her 5k will be better than this 3k.
Third, don't forget that she lost her coach in December and so has been in a transition to a new coach since then, so it just might be that she isn't as good as she was in xc.

Monson has run 14:31 and 8:26. She is way (currently) out of Tuohy's league.
and noone is saying that is not the case. Your point about 4:24 implying 8:48 is what some of us think is very strange. People have run 8:50 that Tuohy is >5 s faster in mile and 20 s faster in XC.
Maybe Valby isn't worth the hype! Is XC her strength?
Anyone can have a bad day of course.
I'm not on Team Valby so I don't know her PRs, but if she's a fast but not generational runner on the track, I'm unsure about the overwhelming amount of Valby content on here.
I think right now a flat 6K is her strength as she can hold a 75 s 400 pace a long time. She reminds me of Tuohy as a hs sophomore with a long fluid stride but no real ability to accellerate. Got to work on the speed. Compare Tuohy running the hs mile record to ger running the college record and it is 2 very different runners.
And the delts and traps don’t hurt either, eh bub?

What I found interesting looking at the all-time fastest indoor prep 3,000 and 2 miles (if you throw out Mary Cain) is that all of them (top 10 in each) were run in the last few years - like 2019 on - except for Melody Fairchild back in 1991. That is like 19 out of 20 (again excluding Mary Cain). Is it the shoes?

nice change of subject.....but that is not the case for boys is it? My uninformed opinion is more and more girls are taking the sport more serious in hs and training harder than 10+ years ago. Or maybe there are more well paced races on faster tracks like BU? Or more hs girls getting int races with collegians ( like Cook at Stanford)? or maybe a combo of all of these, including shoes?

You would be correct. Take Newbury Park out of the 3000 and Heidesch out of the 2 miles and it is all the big names from yesteryear.
