I haven’t, though; I was a 1:56 guy in high school. There is this thing called the “indoor season,” and since I’m sure Hocker wants to perform well, if he falls well short of his expectations that could potentially be cause for some concern.
I’m not worried about him though.
I wouldn't be too sure. He is focused on preforming well this summer, not now.
His expectations could very likely be to stay healthy, train hard, and maybe hop in a few races to stay familiar with racing while not really tapering/shifting out of base work.
That is why if he ran 3:58 but is in the middle of a huge week of base training it could be a huge success for him. Anyways, it sucks for us as fans but indoor doesn't really matter.
It sounded from his brief interview post-race at Lilac Grand Prix that he’d done very little track work, but was hoping to mix it up at Millrose and thought he could fare well. Similar to this time last year IIRC. Keep in mind he’s training with the same coach as the last two years, when he ran 3:50i and won championship doubles each year. Comparing his indoor season to his previous years is by no means definitive, but shouldn’t be deemed a waste of breath for fans who enjoy discussing the sport.
Hocker is running the US indoor 1500/3k double again this year so excited to see that! Hocker is fine, as long as he stays healthy there is really nothing to worry about. Despite the bad luck injury at USA’s, he still ran pr’s in the mile-5k in 2022. He is nowhere close to being done at 21 years old lol.
You want to know why Adidas is getting it's money's worth out of Kessler? They could care less if he wins s-i- right now. He has generated over 50 posts on one mostly negative thread..Hocker..8?
I would think that they couldn't care less, but maybe you know more than I do.

Yeah the worry for Hocker is solely about health. He wasn’t sharp last year indoors and still 3:50 and 7:39. If he is more than a second or two off the win that means he’s likely missed some time. If he gets beat by Hoare/Nuguse in the finish it’s not like his kick has gone it probably just means he’s not as sharp as the ON guys.
I agree that Kessler-posting in a Hole Cocker thread is egregious, but biggest tool? Personally, this king fella isn’t making my letsrun tools Mount Rushmore and it’s not even close.

Thank you lol

Yes. I think people expect progression at age 20. I remember that age and know that I wanted to PR every single season (or race!). I think the pros are MORE competitive and driven (by a lot) than I ever was.
I am sure that Hocker will not be happy just running 3:54.2 or something like that. I am not worried yet, as I stated in my original post, but I don't think it feels good to be running slower (if that is what happens) than when you were 18 or 19. That is all I am saying.
I am sure Cole either A) feels the same way or B) knows he is fine and just "building base right now." As fans of the sport, we like to try and guess which one it is. That is what it means to be a sports fan - we care about this stuff the way NFL fans care about off-season injury reports.

I would think people do not train thru Millrose.
This is big
Is it actually big?
Sure the event a ton of history but it really means nothing to these athletes seasons. No significant prize money and I doubt their contracts have any big incentives based on this race.

You don't need to literally have been there before. You need to act like you've been there before. One of the first things I learned when I went to college.
I am curious if others are also feeling a strange sense of "unfounded worry" about Cole Hocker? He is one of my favorite runners. He is a multiple-time national champion, 3:50 miler, and managed a strong 6th at the Olympics. He can't actually be injured now because he just ran a 3000m in 7:51 (to win the race) and even finished last season with a 3:50 at the 5th Avenue Mile. There is no reason to worry, right?
If that is the case, why am I nervous about his coming year?
What does Hocker need to run this weekend to change the perception that something is up? And what time/outcome would be "good yet still worrisome" to you?
Why the hell would anyone be anxious, nervous and worried about some random runner's performance unless they have no life and are just living vicariously through others? It's not normal to be this invested in a stranger's performance. Hell, I wouldn't even write this way about my own kid, unless I wanted him to know his dad is a fkn wanker

Hocker is VERY likely to have an Andrew Wheating like career. It is OK and no reason to worry. Life goes on.

Note the declaration column my guy. The top of the list is Drew Bosley, who I doubt will run US indoors. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see them both race and I think it’s likely Hocker will. There is a chance this is actually the entry list as Nuguse and many collegians who are faster than other entries are missing.

Almost. The LRC douchebags are living vicariously against others.

Why do you doubt he is running? NCAAs is 3 weeks later and he is already qualified for both the 3,000/5,000. Him and Nur just got added last night, they are most likely both running.
Also both US Indoors and NCAAs are in Albuquerque New Mexico. No better practice for NCAAs than to do a dry run against tougher competition.
