They may be right! Would hardly be the first athlete to do that double. Probably more team points doing that than the DMR/3000 double. Giving up on DMR also opens up other chances in 800.
Many teams will qualify a DMR and then water it down. With only 12 teams, some watered down teams will still score. It isn't like an individual throwing away an event. The team still gets to enter. But Valby has to qualify in the other 2 events.
He thought one possibility is Tuohy does the DMR/3k, in lieu of the 3k/5k. Not sure what the point of that is, from the perspective of trying to maximize points.
Well yes but who else does FL have besides Valby, Barrett and Wilkinson for the 800/1200/1600 slots? Right now they have have another miler who has run 4:45 this season and no other 800 m runner below 2:11.7. Presumably Valby can qualify in 5000 this week and 3000 at SEC. But the 3000 won't be a cake walk as the cutoff could find it's way to 9:00 pretty quickly.
She will probably double at SEC too. Beating Arkansas there might be harder than beating Texas at nationals. Last year they lost by 30. She can either do the 5 and the 3 or the DMR and the 3.
Last year their top two in the 800 ran the 12 and 16 in the DMR. Moving them down a notch could help them score higher in the 800 the next day.
Yes. I assume that you realize some people are sprinters and some are distance runners. Brazier has run 3:35 for 1500. How would he do in the 5000? Molly Seidel has an Olympic medal in the marathon but her mile PR is 4:42. On the track, think Valby and Tuohy are even at 5000 and Valby wins over and Tuohy wins under.
This is purely speculative as I don’t know Parker, and it’s obvious she’s an incredible talent and knows how to work hard. But she doesn’t strike me as someone who loves the sport or loves to race. Again, only from a Birds Eye view with her interviews etc but this combined with her tendency for injury makes me wonder about her longevity beyond NCAA
The flotrak guy thinks Florida will probably enter her in both the 3k and 5k at Natty’s for the points, to edge out Texas for the Women’s team title.

Alternatively, that 12 will be the 16 if they field a DMR team at Natty’s Indoor this year, particularly if Valby is to 3/5 double.
