But, why?
Fantastic concept - a flaw that isn't a programmers fault --> the program assumes event entry. Brings back thoughts of the Ciara Mageean quote - 3:58 runner who couldn't get confirmed until the absolute last minute for Brussels DL.
i agree, this is just meant to get the ball rolling and I hope to implement some sort of ELO ranking / speed rating system that could be used instead of target time after some more events are added. then the question becomes, should that ELO ranking be based on the previous year's rankings, or the current year's rankings in hindsight, or just PB of each competitor?
also, I found the source for having a maximum of 2 indoor marks scored is section 2.72 "minimum performance scores in the Main Event", and I updated the app accordingly to take that into account.
I know this isn't the point at all but reading the initial post makes me even more upset when federations don't let athletes compete who have the standard.
I liked when every country jut got to send 3 athletes or maybe a smaller country got to send a wildcard. I don't really get the point of whittling down fields at the World Champs when you have some countries who have a lot more than 3 good athletes in a particular event. You're already leaving athletes out who could be very competitive.
This happens frequently in high school, there is a "super-section" and one great team or a couple of great athletes don't qualify for state.
Fyi I did just quickly update the site with new data for 2023 now that the qualification window is closed. But the target scores are based on the July 25th rankings because the July 31st rankings haven't been released yet. Also, there is so much more data this year that I had to use compression to get it all to fit in under 100mb -- this means there is a ~15 second additional delay on initial page load but it should be quicker after that initial delay.
