Excuse me, I have no doubt the marathon record was set in cooler temps.

Yeah well thats their fault for not training in warmer conditions if the half marathon championships were that important to them.
again - if you could just read the thread - coming from FL it will fine for Sell.
I wasn't particularly addressing Snell. I just hate hearing the weather excuses pop up no matter where you are.
If it is going to affect someone, they are responsible for researching what the race time temperature range is going to be, and then train accordingly.
Okay, that is a valid point. I did not know that Sell was training in Florida. That will certainly be an advantage over training in Michigan. It just seems like anytime I have done a race in the early spring when all week long it was in say the 30s and then spikes to 65 it sucks. I have done a half marathon in that type of situation and it went horrible. Maybe I'm just a wimp. But I can't be alone in having that reaction to a sudden temperature swing.
10k world record was set in Brussels, Aug 26, 05. From Weather Underground, the max temperature was 64, min was 51.
10k road record, set Doha, Dec 11, 02, max 78, min 68.
1/2 world record, set Rotterdam, Sept 11, 05. Max temp was 71, min 64.
Marathon world record, Berlin, Sept 28, 03. Max temp 64, min temp 39.
So it looks like half these world records were set in temperatures above 65.

Thanks, Let's not forget how hot it was when Geb set the 10 mile WR?
What about 1500, mile, 3000, 3000sc, 5000, 10000?
The day that Brian Sell seeks advice from 18 min 5k runners is the day he'll seek advice from "James Arnold."
Actually that would be one. The 10k road record. Which if you want to get technical is a world best. Which I wouldn't even count since the track record is much faster. The half time was set when it was cooler. That 71 came in the afternoon long after the race was over.

How did you determine that?
The minimum temperature was 64. Are you saying that you know that it was 64 at race time? Common sense says you are wrong Mr 18 min 5k guy.
Geb's 10 mile WR 26 C or 79 F

First off, Who is James Arnold? Second, I said above the 1500. Third, he already listed the temp. for the 10000. Fourth, I have broke 18 minutes for 5k at least once.

In perfect conditions no doubt? Which to you means when your nail polish matches the color of your panties!
Well it is a mute point at best. Since we all know that the real record was set by Tergat. The 10 mile isn't even a recognized event by IAAF for record purposes. But, you aren't really doing much to prove your point by showing that the 10k and 10 mile road records were set in warm conditions. When all the rest were set in cooler conditions. Plus do you really think anyone thinks that running distance races in temperatures below 65 degrees wouldn't be better than in temperatures above 65 degrees. Is that the point you are trying to argue?
So what is your 5k time? If you think that determines if I know what I am talking about. I bet mine is a little better than yours. It always turns into a pissing contest on letsrun. how pathetic. But come on what is your time and lets see some proof.
Yeah that is what I thought. 18 min 5k is a little too close to your real p.r. isn't it.
The weather does not amtter because the field is weak.
Is this a national Chanpionships or a tourism convention?
They should have went with quality, not quantity.
60 athletes and 5 will break 1:05:30, the others are tourists.
More importantly, who's gonna be top 10? I got Sell, Verran, Johnson, Lehmkuhle, Briney, Gabrielson, and Lundstrom all in there for sure.
wrong lehmkuhle is injured and pulled out.
hartmann and rodriguez in
How many Kenyans will be ahead of our top guys?
My goal is 1:15 and watch the thousands of people kick my a**.
when did he get injured? Hartman might do alright...
