He looks so strong. He didn’t fall off last year just maturing at his own pace. 3:30.6 this season I predict. I believe 7:39 was centros indoor time in 2016.
I’m not trying to be funny or mean here but does Kessler have some sort of…issue? His body language and speech patterns are peculiar. That said, he is clearly a sharp kid but something feels off whenever he’s on camera.
3:32 this season + top 5 at USAs is my prediction.
He's just a goofball who doesn't always plan his sentences out before starting them. Space cadets are entertaining and loveable. He'll be far more marketable like this than some boring drone who says classic sports cliches.
Good for him inking that adidas deal when he was most marketable. Can't remember what the rumours were ($100k/year?) but has he been worth it for adidas?
Or is it adidas putting money on the hope that he'll be a champion 5 years down the road?
He's seemed a little off in that post race interview but watching VNTC videos he seems like any other kid, I remember well spoken and normal friends of mine saying they sounded or looked so dumb in milesplit interviews post race, same thing.
Dang, more than I would have thought. Not sure they're getting their value yet, what would he have to do to be worth that? Pretty much nobody outside of niche areas like this site, Citrus, and Flotrack will know who he is.

Have you been around people before? He looks like a normal teenage boy who's yet to mature mentally into an adult.
That said I think your prediction is the most realistic. I don't think 3:30 is quite in the cards this year, but I could see him making a world team.
I’m just not impressed by Hobbs Kessler at all. I don’t see him making the team for Worlds, assuming that he even makes the finals.
You’re not impressed by a 19yo with 2:16/3:34/7:39 PRs? Ok.
FWIW I think Hobbs is gonna run 3:30 this year. The US team will be hard to make but I think everyone except for Nuguse looks beatable for Hobbs, and as good as he is, he’s always been a little inconsistent. Should be a fun year to watch.
for real...only on letsrun is this not impressive.

who is inconsistent? Nuguse or Hobbs? just not sure by your sentence

He's 19 ffs. He is a normal, nervous 19 year old. Most of us also didn't know jack squat at 19, let alone speak on camera knowing sponsors are watching.. He's a kid thrust into the spotlight, with more pressure than we had at 19.

No, I’m not impressed. I don’t think he has it in him to run for medals in any event. I don’t think he will even make the US team at all. 3:30? He won’t break his high school PR this year.

Huge Hobbs fan. Great kid. Amazing talent. Hard worker. The best coach. He's got all the ingredients for a brilliant career. The only factors left are fire in the belly and grace under pressure. Everything else is in place. There is a consistent pattern in his best races: He's either crushing the inferior competition or tucks in and gets dragged along to a fast time by superior runners. Well, Hobbs is getting to the point where not too many runners are out of his league, so he can't just be the awkward teen going along for a ride in the middle of the pack. The difference between a good and a great career will be what happens when he's in a dogfight with equally talented athletes.
