He missed the HS record. I'd say he'll probably miss the American record too. If you talk the greatest, you better BE the greatest. Otherwise he's Sha-Cade-i Flatt-ardson to me. Gwen-Cade Jorgen-Flatt. And so on. Just run, son.
This, I don’t think Flatt has shown anything that puts him in the same conversation as brazier yet. A 1:42 PB and a 1:46 are worlds apart.
Theres a bigger gap between Brazier and Flatts PBs than me and Flatt, and I’m an also ran at any non local meet.
1:46 and 1:42 are like 10.1 and 9.7. Both are phenomenal marks but one is a potential world beater and one should be happy to be on the world stage. One also doesn’t assume a 10.1 HS guy will go on to run 9.7, it’s possible but you wouldn’t bet on it.
Not trying to bash on Cade, I hope he kicks some a$$ this season, but you should expect a high 1:44 or a 1:45 this season, and that’d be amazing for a freshman.
I’m getting the same energy as the threads that were saying Brazier would be the man to break 1:40, I think people just need to understand at a high level like this, improvement stops being so linear.
honestly, this kid needs to be taught a lesson by some guy at a bar. His ego is so big I think the only thing that coumd help it is some serious "facial reconstruction"

The record is 1:42.34 held by Donovan Brazier. I say he gets it 2024. He’ll get the world record of 1:40.91 held by David Rudisha by the time he’s done at Ol’ Miss. I predict he’ll be the first under the 1:40 barrier.
Nah, Brazier is THE best 800m talent we've ever had. This has been the case since he was a high schooler. Dude was absolutely galloping at the Brooks PR Invitational 800m his senior year.

Errr, hasn't shown anything? Dont get it. Did Brazier run 1:46 mid in high school three friggin times??? C'mom. This is getting ridiculous. Not in the conversation. Lol

This sort of thing is one of the main reasons that I don’t like the guy
Laugh all you want to. The last laugh will be on you.
All the college women want Cade and all of the college men want to be Cade.
He has already scaled the mountain!! He has proclaimed twice (for sure) that he is the "greatest of all time". Weird generation. Track is one of few sports (well, most olympic sports) that you dont have to guess who is best. There is a clock. He's not the best. He needs multiple seconds to be in the convo even in the US. He needs a role model, badly. I see a shacarri situation developing if he is not careful
I don't think he'll break it but I think he'll give us some good times and races in the NCAA. He's a fun athlete to watch regardless of if you like him or not.
He is entered in Millrose 800m. What are the odds he is DFL?
I am curious what type of training he is doing with Ole Miss. He is obviously a very low mileage guy and has had success with that. The 800m is one of those events where you can have impeccable success by using low volume.
Bigger talent than Brazier so I can see the US record going down but don't think he's going under 1:41.
Cade ran 1:46.5 at 18 years, 11 months
Brazier ran 1:43.5 at 19 years, 2 months
Brazier was 3 seconds faster at the same age. Cade more likely to never break 1:44 than to break the AR.

This.
Also, Clayton Murphy was already faster at age 20 (that's right!...Flatt is a 20 y.o. freshman!):and in fact Murphy was already an NCAA champ at age 20 and Olympic Bronze medalist w a 1:42xx at age 21
Flatt has shown nothing close to that yet and vs Brazier or Murphy at the same age would be finishing 800 meters ~30-40 meters back.
So far, I'd put money on Sumner being better and definitely has more potential and is purely faster.
