Note to rojo, do you look at your customers like they should write your articles for you?
Are you guys stupid? The wisdom of crowds. I put it here for a number of reasons.
1)I figured other people had the same question as me. So if I post it, they also get the answer.
2) I knew someone would know the answer so I wouldn't have to harrass anyone at Oregon.
3) I knew the answer would be instant versus harrasing people at Oregon at 6:30 am.
4) The messageboard is the heart of LetsRun.com. I want to emphasize that as much as possible.
I don't have much dog in this fight but I think what people are wondering is why can't you just use your connections to get a legit answer straight from the horses mouth? Can't you shoot a text to Jerry or Chris or someone in the know and get a quick reply or are you not on good enough terms with them? Asking the question is not harassing. And 6:30 am is not early for working people.
My post encouraging Rojo to call around to find answers (seeing that he's gotta have contacts who can give a professional and verified response) is deleted, but he then calls us stupid? Nice. Usual foolishness on these boards. It's like you don't want the site to be taken seriously, but rather be the National Enquirer of the running world.
Rojo, as it’s WAY past 0630 now and as you still don’t have the answer you need. As surely by now you have reached out to Oregon or Solinsky about this matter
Look, Rojo’s an idiot, but you guys saying he should just be a journalist and use his connections and text Solinsky are kidding yourselves.
There are lots of ways to be a journalist, but at some point you have to choose between two basic options: you can be pals with the people you cover, or you can ask hard questions. And if you’re willing to ask hard questions, then you don’t get quick answers to easy questions either. That’s the catch-22: the people that would get a reply to this kind of question (which isn’t controversial but sounds vaguely like it might be sniffing around the edges of controversy) at 6:30am are the people who don’t ask it.
Whatever else you might say about Letsrun’s journalism (and there’s lots to say), they’ve shown themselves to be willing to ask questions that people don’t like.

This^^^^^^^ all of it.
6:30 on the East Coast means you have a real job. 6:30 on the West Coast means you're late.
Why does Rojo have to wake someone at 6:30am to get an answer. That point was bizarre in the first place. A simple text...even at 6:30am....should get a response at some point.
If not, then Rojo can give the standard "we reached out to Solinsky for an explanation but he declined to comment".
Note to rojo, do you look at your customers like they should write your articles for you?
I also have spoken to Jerry directly and whenever the mention of this website comes up he’s warns to stay away. He is not a fan (to put it politely) and would never knowingly give out information about his program to it

just bc you ask a question someone doesn’t like doesn’t mean you are a good journalist

This is pretty basic stuff.
The larger point is that Rojo: (1) still hasn’t gotten the answer he wanted and (2) still hasn’t reached out to Oregon or Solinsky

So it appears that the heart of LetsRun.com may indeed be a collection of stupid people, who, in the aggregate, somehow occasionally generate something remotely resembling wisdom, despite their individual stupidity. A baker’s dozen minds are better than one, even if they are idiots when they are not part of this collective. It almost seems like an argument for a socialist society. You really are a registered Democrat after all.

Agreed. I don’t think Rojo is a good journalist, but I also don’t think he’d have gotten an answer by texting Solinsky or Schumacher.
After Jerry was hired he only named four assistant coaches - the NCAA allows for 6 total between the head coach and 5 assistants. He brought on Shalane for distance, Brian Blutreich for throws, and kept Curtis for sprints, and Seth Hensen for jumps, then added couple of ops people. So he never hired a 6th and final paid coach. I was told the reason was they overspent on salary for his assistants so they couldn’t hire anyone until the new year. Now that we are entering 2023, admin approved the addition of the final Coach.
Another note - people are making a big deal about the position only bringing in 75K. Oregon assistants all get a generous stipend from Nike to supplement their salary, plus generous performance bonuses. So Solinsky will be just fine financially.
Vin's UO salary was essentially matched 1:1 by Phil, I assume Jerry has a similar (if perhaps not quite as lucrative) arrangement.

@THERUNNINGEFFECT can shoot Jerry a text. We should have the answer soon.

They are muckrakers, not journalists, so are on good terms with very few in the running world. Most do not respect letsrun, period, because of what the Johnsons' have allowed to proliferate on their message board.
Note how all the cross country articles contained every thought Dave Smith ever had on the subject, but not much from anyone else of note.
