England womens football winning the Euros was the biggest sporting "moment" of the year in the UK. Won, at Wembley, 90,000 people in attendance. Beth Mead also has a personality. 23 million people watched it live also (out of a UK population of 70 million).
So this was an absolute no brainer, the favourite won. End of.
Its womens football though. Who even watches that and why? How much were the tickets? I assume heavily discounted or free for 90000 to get in.
How do you think the interest in that final compares to the interest in Wightman winning the 1500 in Eugene, bearing in mind there was a peak viewership of 17.4 million in the UK for the final?

Oh, and she has a personality.
I can see that, there is no doubt women's football is big in the UK now, thanks a lot to the BBC pushing it so much.
The curling guy coming 3rd ahead of Wightman and Ronnie is the joke. The public vote aspect is very suspect. It doesn't seem possible that the curling guy could get more votes than Ronnie O'Sullivan. Ronnie should have got more votes than the entire number of people who have even heard of the curling guy.
It wouldn't have helped that Wightman has more of a London accent than a Scottish one. I was born and raised in England but I have more of a Scottish accent than him due to my Glaswegian mother.
A lot of talks in this site about your anglo saxons.
You even elevate them to the rank of prophets.
But it's not the people that we talk the most, are those that win.
Small biased world.
Are you talking about the LetsRun prophet who predicted that a titan would fall? He was correct - Rudisha fell in the plane crash, and the pilot has been banned from flying again for life.
