Jakob was actually 12th in World Juniors in Copenhagen, which was startling, as he was already a 3:31/low 13 man (with a quick last lap), but it had a very steep section that took it out of him. However, on a course without that steep a hill, I'd expect him to be very competitive at World xc. He said he's not doing it because it would take too much time out of his season when World outdoor is the priority. Now, if it were in Europe, not Australia, and were not a world outdoor year, maybe he would do it.
Jakob wouldn't stand a chance in WC cross. Last time he got absolutely destroyed by the smaller africans. Moving that big norwegian tree up the hills is just not going to happen as fast as the africans.
I am not saying he would be the favorite. I'm just saying it's unfair to say he would never stand a chance. Yes, he got demolished 3 years ago in the junior race, but it's just one race. Maybe he wasn't feeling good, maybe the long hill took too much out of him. If i remember correctly he was 30-40 seconds behind Oscar Celimo in that race (which i think it was an 8k race) and I doubt that's a correct depiction of the current scenario.
Yes, that would do it. Or the mile WR, or if he does the 1500/5000 double gold in Paris.
The three names mentioned above were also likely three of the biggest dopers in the history of the sport, when there was practically no competition from outside Africa. They dominated the Rift Valley Championships.
Who is the British guy - Emile Cairess - who came second, btw? He looks Moroccan.
This is rich coming from the guy who seems to spend all of his time sh!tting on foreign runners (I mean youre not always wrong when it comes to suspicious athletes etc but you have a strange obsession with tearing down africans at every possible opportunity)
If you actually cared about British athletics you would know who this guy is. 27'26" 10k, wrecked everyone at Liverpool cross challenge and currently one of our brightest distance prospects.
then why are you looking at and commenting on results from a cross country race?
I'm interested when Jakob is running, whatever the distance. Look forward to him moving up to 10K and then marathon and making the Kenyans wishing they had been banned.
Aren't you British? The guy equalled the British 10km record last year. He's been one of the brightest prospects for years.
And to me - he looked pretty British. The "Great Britain" on his shirt was a giveaway.
Emile Cairess is an English name?
You and Coevett are way out of your depth here, you xenophobic, ignorant jerks. Cairess is a common surname in Yorkshire and has been used with that spelling since at least the 19th Century.
Emile is a French name adopted a long time ago into the English language. You know like, Adrianne, Aimee, Colin or Michelle. But I guess to you Emile Hirsch is not American.
