Big deal. We've seen publicity stunts for decades. News anchors start out in Europe and the East Coast before they hit the jackpot and get a permanent gig in the L.A. news market.
Looking at the details, she was 6th out of 3229 in the F40-44 age group and 42nd woman overall (out of the masses race not counting the elites, but still ....) And although she positive split (like almost everyone else who ran NYC this year), she hit the half split in 1:24:18, so was apparently shooting for sub-2:50. Legit by any standard.
A very impressive run on a tough course in tough weather—and at age 40. She has a perfect small, skinny runner girl body, and indeed looks as if she were born to be a distance runner. A natural marathoner. Congrats to Ana…
I hope Ana returns to the Bay Area or Hollywood soon. 46% of California are White-Hispanics. The GDP of Southern California is greater than that of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Even a former Div 1 runner needs to put in serious training to hit that time. That is impressive for someone who works on air at CNN. On a flat course with good weather, she is definitely in the sub 2:50 range.
It's impressive by any measure. I saw the segment on CNN this afternoon, assumed she'd run 4 hours or so, and was stunned when the guy who came on right after the race-reveal said, in effect, "You're not going to brag on yourself, but I'm going to brag on YOU, girl!"
6:46 pace average, on a warmish day, for a 40-year old TV anchorwoman.
I found her result on the NYC Marathon website and ran the age-grade, which is 78.29%.
At our present cultural moment, when everybody wants a pat on the back and clap-hands going "Good for you! You're SUCH a winner" no matter the result, we might all pause for a moment and appreciate her truly fine performance.
Sub 3 hours at 40 for a woman is impressive as you noted.
It's very impressive. Another CNN host, Fredricka Whitfield, is the daughter of Mal Whitfeld, 2 time Olympic gold medalist in the 800. It looks like she runs triathlons.
Ana was a two year team captain of the cross country team at Washington State. She was last twice in the Pac-12 10000m. Arguably the second most famous female track & field athlete from Skyview HS in Vancouver.
I know TV News is a tough career so she has to work in odd places until she gets established. I hope soon she'll get an anchor job back home in L.A. or even Frisco is fine.
She's like an ant-woman. She looks like she was born to run.
Obviously talents but also would love to know her training plan.
She works hard but is obviously naturally talented. Sub-18 in the 5k. I know LRCers are faster but she's faster than most guys in the general public. 2:57 26.2 and probably sub-1:25 in the 13.1.
Big deal. We've seen publicity stunts for decades. News anchors start out in Europe and the East Coast before they hit the jackpot and get a permanent gig in the L.A. news market.
What's wrong with that? It's a tough career; they have to go where the $ is.
She's wealthy and has running talent. The gold standard for LRC--make $$$$ and run fast.
