The KS guy that got the last auto bid was running in the 18s as a freshman and sophomore. Just something to keep in mind

This is exciting news.
That's really impressive for that small of school.
He should have tried harder back then.

He probably noticed how good and young his team was in fall 2020.
His team dominated the state meet with 4 nonseniors under 16:50.
He probably saw a possibility on NXN coming back and knew that if he took the sport seriously and stepped up the way he did, his team could make it to NXN.
So he decided to really step up.
There was also another guy in his class that went from a 17:18 to a 9:46 3200
T Voss 16:26.30 at NXR with big fries 16:37. Looks good for track. But I know he does swim so who knows. Looking like sub 1:59 for 800m
Who knows how far up there any of these freshmen are gonna be in 3 years?
Elliott McArthur, Cameron Stocke and Owen Bosley were the best 3 in their class at Heartland but look where they finished at NXR
And Hootie Hage too. Look what happened to him in just 1 year
Seems like so many of these guys who were the best in the class as 8th and 9th graders have burned out

Results from the non-championship race
Laninga 16:42 at NXR
Other sophs Tirfe and Schneider sub-17.
No Downin.
But this sophomore class is STACKED

Well, the year that King was running in the 18s, his team won state and their 7th man was a senior. So it’s good for that senior that King didn’t try that hard. Otherwise he would have made that senior an 8th man. His team still won state and it was 2020 so there wasn’t gonna be any NXN that year.
Maybe it’s good that he didn’t try that hard freshman and sophomore year. Many people that run fast young burn out and then drop in their class a lot
Why didn’t Downin race at the Mile Time Trial or NXR. Since you guys seem to know so much. If it was just pressure I think he would have still ran. I heard before from someone his iron levels were so low that it affected his performances, not pressure or mental

Yeah someone posted that he had iron level issues. But sometimes people who don’t make varsity don’t run in this post season stuff. And that’s ok if they don’t want to especially if they aren’t seniors
At least Downin is a sophomore so he got 2 more years. He’s one of the guys who could possibly score on varsity next year just like Laninga
What I’d like to know is why Salatino (Wayzata’s 7th) didn’t run at NXR at all. And on top of that, instead of him, they put in a senior who wasn’t even the fastest senior on the team at Lefty Wright. And he ran in the 18s at Heartland, much slower than many Wayzata and Southwest JV guys.
Could be a little risky. Now they have to make sure their 1-6 are healthy.

Maybe he did try hard back then, maybe he was doing some non running things wrong (poor nutrition, sleep, etc), or had an injury he was running with. Or didn’t have the right running form. Or hasn’t done any summer running
Who knows?

Minnetonka boys freshman 5k times are fast. Sean fries (15:51) Colin Ostendorf (17:47). Charlie Cummings (18:10). Andrew Debrey (19:12). Drew Malk (19:18) also and mention to 8th grader Casey Nordstrom (18:16).
if they keep up the training with Sean they could be competitor for state champs senior year.
Lefty Right-Grade level champions on Monday and if Casey Nordstrom runs on 9th grade team they will be competing. Even without Sean fries.
They could compete for state champs in 2024.

Why? Because their boys team never won state or made NXN before?
