Fall foliage anywhere is beautiful. But for that breathtaking, disorienting kind of beauty try the Colorado Rockies along the divide, Aspen/Snowmass area, the Maroon Bells wilderness.
The Maroon Bells are a pair of peaks that are one of the most popular destinations in Colorado. The peaks tower over a beautiful wilderness area bordering Pitkin and Gunnison counties, not far from…
If you drew a curve from Maine through about Illinois you'd hit a lot of nice foliage proivded you aren't in farm country. New England forests would be the best in my opinion but the mountains of Central PA are nice too.
I’m in the Blue ridge Mtns of Western NC and this region is the best I’ve seen outside of NH and VT. Driving the Kankamaugus (sp?) Hwy was really beautiful, but also reminded me of the Blue Ridge Pkwy down here. Spent a lot time in Colorado also. The Aspen and Larch trees are pretty sweet in the fall, but does not compete with much of the east coast IMO

That's a breath taking photo to be sure, but it's a mountains and sunset picture in the autumn. In Vermont or New Hampshire the mountains have multi-colored foliage on them which is the subject of the thread.
In general the best foliage colors are in mixed hardwood forests typical of the upper midwest and northeast and it displays better in hilly or mountainous regions.
I know the answer to end the thread. However, if I told everyone then they'd want to come. I have been to Stowe, Minocqua and Telluride. Each place I just mentioned is amazing any time of year.
But the place I am thinking of, [redacted], is even better. Living on top of the local hillside affords you a view of everything when the colors change. And in parts of the local forests, it is nice and cool on a hot day.

I would tend to agree based on what I’ve seen. East TN, West NC really good

Vermont because of the Maple population. NH and Maine are good too but there are too many oak and pine. I drove three students across NH last week, they were from Colorado, Idaho, and Montana and were absolutely amazed with the color "we only have yellow out west." Northern New England is past peak right now, especially after a stormy weekend, but you may have luck at the Massachusetts border.
