They already said they would limit Chmiel's races. If Starliper is fully healthy I would say she runs and Chmiel doesn't. Hopefully Shaw is ready to go. I don't see Tuohy running any harder than it takes to win ACC and then maybe she does not run regional. Although last year she and Chmiel ran all the races.
I think you are probably right.
As a fan though, I would like to see Tuohy start fast and squeeze the pace down. Have not seen her do that this season on a 6k (Nutty looked like more of sit and kick effort -- who knows if it really was though). Would be great to see her (and the others) try for a fast 6k before nationals.
I’d put the ND #1 on the podium with yr NCSt picks. Markezich’s 2021 results suggest she gets stronger and more race savvy as the season progresses and she’s trending similarly this year with significantly faster times. [It’s still early, but I foresee her becoming another top steeplechaser who performs surprisingly well on the OKSt course (think Norris & Steelman in 3/2021).]
Total crapshoot for the rest.
Oh, interesting! I’ll have to do a bit more research into Markezich. So you’re thinking that she’d be top-3?
After further review, I’m holding on to my thoughts (and reasons) for Markezich for possible 6th at best. She’s good, but I just don’t see her cracking that top-5.
UNLESS, Tuohy and/or Chmiel; or possibly both, don’t even run. Then Markezich is certainly top-5, possibly 3rd.

Oh, Tuohy’s Nuttycombe race was undoubtedly a sit and kick race. If you watch the replay, she’s literally jogging along, looking constantly side-to-side, gauging everyone, etc., as everyone was keying off of her. SLOW… There is an absolutely noticeable point where she shifts gears and then starts racing. A ~3:00 final 1km UPHILL shows where her fitness is.
I too want to be selfish here (especially after Valby’s recent 18:58), and watch Tuohy just RIP a 6km race to see where she is REALLY at. (I imagine SHE does as well).

what would be the point? The only thing that matters is November 19. ACC just to win, and depending on rest of team maybe sit out regional.

Oh, I agree with you. That’s why I said “I too want to be selfish here” and I just want her to do it to show the country, (and herself), JUST how fit and fast she REALLY is. I’ve always subscribed to the Prefontaine way of running: Go fast and make everyone else hurt if they want to win. IF she races this, she already knows she’s going to win, and I imagine her intrinsic desire is to run as fast as possible.

several tried being the one to push the pace 18 months ago and paid for it dearly as they misjudged what they needed...Orton went from pushing at 4.5K up the hill to hitting a wall at 5K

Yeah Orton definitely hit that wall in that race.
But I’d still like to see Tuohy go for it in a 6k just once this season. Just bein’ selfish, I know it.
No reason to and I don't think the coach would approve. Henes does not like wasted big efforts. During track season there is a direct incentive to run a fast track time for qualification, to get a sense of the athlete's capabilities, and psychologically for the athlete's own confidence. But in XC it is going to be more tactical, getting used to running in a crowded field and setting a smart pace. But she still had an impressive course record this season. Plus not sure 19:19 on Nuttycombe is obtainable anymore after alleged course changes. In 2018 you had four national champions dueling it out and Monsoon won in 19:44 or thereabouts.
I agree with this...I would expect Tuohy and Chmiel to run the ACC and then to sit regionals. I wouldn't want them running both races or sitting both races....but running ACC just gives them a little more of a break before Nats.
No reason at all for them to go for a fast time. It will be interesting to see who else runs...hopefully Starliper. If she sits again, then likely there is an something wrong.

Monson won Nutty in 19:33 in 2018, and 19:39 2019. Both races were faster than this year. In 2019 Monson beat kelati by 9 seconds.
Of all the races that weekend, the ACCs will be the least interesting in terms of the overall mix of runners.
Yeah, it’s like everyone in the country already pretty much knows what’s going to happen in the ACC’s.
Now in the others? ie: SEC and BIG12, I’m SOOO looking forward to seeing what happens in those.
Agree SEC and Big 12 might tell a lot. ACC looks more competitive at top than most years as Duke has a good runner, ND has Markezich, Brown of UNC has been running well, and UVA has several. Should be competitive at the front for most of the race. and much tougher for NC State to tally dominate like last year although they should still win by a lot. PAC 12 also interesting.
UVA Panoramic course and general setting is the best course for fans I’ve ever seen. Medium difficulty. I live in Virginia but my loyalties are with NC State. This course though is simply….WOW!

That’s awesome! I’ve done a lot of research on trying to find examples of the course, but they all seem to be shots of the start, somewhere mid-way, and the finish. Nothing that I can find shows the entire course.
Are you near enough to where you can go there and do a walk-through or something and video it?
