So I say good job, rest of the world. Doesn’t mean Kenya doesn’t remain the preeminent world power at distances 800-marathon (and yeah, I agree Great Britain probably nips them in the men’s 1500 this year).
JWH, great analysis on the improvement from the rest of the world. I respect your knowledge of the sport but I disagree with your statement that Kenya is the preeminent world power at 800-marathon. Here’s how I see it currently based on this year:
Men: 800 - Kenya clear #1 1500 - GB #1 for going 1st and 5th at worlds and having 3 in the top 10 list; Kenya close with Spain (3rd and 6th at worlds) and Australia (5-6 in the top 10 list) for second Steeple - Ethiopia #1 for finishing 2nd and 4th at worlds and having 3 in the top 5 list 5,000 - Kenya clear #1 10,000 - Uganda #1 for finishing 1st and 3rd at worlds; Ethiopia #2 for having the 3-7 times in the top 10 list Marathon - Need to see how the fall season goes but right now Ethiopia has the slight edge for finishing 1-2 at worlds plus having 5 in the top 10 list
Women: 800 - USA clear #1 1500 - Despite Kenya having Kipyegon, Ethiopia has the better team for going 2nd and 4th at worlds and dominating the top 10 list Steeple - Ethiopia #1 for finishing 2-3 at worlds and having 4 in the top 10 list 5,000 - Ethiopia #1 for finishing 1st, 3rd, and 5th at worlds and having the top 4 times 10,000 - tie between Kenya and Ethiopia Marathon - slight edge to Kenya over Ethiopia; need to see how fall season goes

It's clear that GB is ahead of Kenya at 1500m, but it occured to me that you could make a case we are number 1 in the 800m too.
Which country could top a healthy Burgin, Dustin, and Wightman? Especially in that Burgin is 20 and Dustin 22. It's just bad luck that Burgin and Dustin were both injured this year, and the timetable doesn't allow Wightman to double up.
