Like seriously, what is the thought process here?!? Pure trolling or do you have some kind of point I can't wrap my head around?
If you can't grasp the simple concept that training/racing long distance takes the edge off your mid-d speed, I doubt I can help you.
Even taking on 5000 seriously probably made any push for 3:25 impossible. I've seen Gjeert quoted claiming Jakob can do it, but no sign of the training focus necessary to get it done.
who said he was even training for that half marathon? you do realize that the long run for many milers is approximately half a marathon, right? jakob is most likely gonna fun this thing as an endurance workout. and no. taking the 5000 seriously isn't gonna make your 1500m times impossible. if this was the case, then what do you think about bernard lagat when he was a top level 1500/5000m runner at the same time?
Noone serious about ever breaking the 1500 world record would race a half, even as a pacer. It's all over as far as that goes.
Was ovett serious about it? Snell raced a full marathon.
Hahah Ovett was immediately who I thought of, who famously ran a half in 65.38 a week before probably his most dominant performance ever at the 1977 World Cup where he obliterated the field, including the reigning Olympic Champion Walker, in 3.34.45 basically cruising the last 80m after running 12.5 seconds from 200m to 100m to go.

Yes, and the WR at the time was only 62:37, and 63:46 the year before. Ovett entered at the last minute because his flight to the 1500m he was intending to run was cancelled, jogged most of the way on borrowed trainers and sprinted away at the end with blisters on his feet.
Having said that, there was an interview with Ovett after he moved back down from the 1500m in 1989 where he correctly states his worry about getting his speed back, saying 'distance kills speed'. But of course, he was in his mid-thirties by this point.
Surprise entry in the Drammen half marathon this Sunday (9/4); Jakob Ingebrigtsen will make his half marathon debut, alongside his brothers Filip and Kristoffer. Could the reigning 5000m world champion get close to the Norwegian record of 59:48 (Moen, 2017) or even the European record of 59:13 (Wanders, 2019)? Start list is here:

I think the bigger question is what could Ovett have run this night in Dusseldorf in a paced race. I mean you can see he runs basically 1200m of the race checking and "shorting" his stride and that insane acceleration from 1300-1400 coupled with an easy float up the straight (showing that burst of speed did basically nothing in terms of fatiguing him) - with the WR still at 3.32.16 was it inconceivable that he would have smashed that this night? It's kind of incredible because even with his brilliant career that included 3 WR's in the 1500 and 2 in the mile (plus the Olympic 800m gold), I always think of this race as peak Ovett.
Actually, you're a nameless unregistered user, wallowing in the gutter.
If you didn't know I were right, you wouldn't go right to nasty, to hate, to lashing out in your pathetic geek pain. You and your kind are the "meme," bub... the hate spewing trash this board is world famous for.
If Jakob were interested in chasing a record, he'd be doing it, not dabbling in long races, and you're gonna have to admit this to yourself no matter how much it hurts. Just remember it's you hurting you, not me. You chose this.
All those races, 2 miles to Half Marathon for S. Ovett. It didn't help Ovett a bit when he was outkicked by 3:36 or 3:37 Jurgen Straub, 1980 1500m Olympic final. Ovett's kick in 1500 races was best when Ovett was only a couple of years removed from 1976 800m final. I have a lot of respect for Ovett. A great 800m/1500m talent. That stated, Ovett's escapade into 2 mile through Half Marathon territory certainly didn't improve Ovett as an 800m/1500m man.
Yup because pacing one half marathon will suddenly destroy all his previous 1500m training and ability in a single blow. Makes perfect sense. I'd bet he'd be lucky to ever break 5min for the 1500m after that! I 🤣
Even the act of thinking about it has already cost him a second a lap.
