Why does he need to run any faster in a race that doesn’t have a rabbit? He just raced to win and got a nice paycheck out of it. 10000 euros according to the website.
You read the website wrong. It was €10,000 euros for the top Finnish athlete over a 6 race series from all event types. For foreigners in the 5k, it was €500 to win.
That makes more sense. Athletes get $10k for winning a DL race, it would be odd if some small time meet was handing out that kind of prize money
I really dont get this site sometimes. Dude just had downtime and ran 13:49 at a distance that isnt his wheelhouse (at all). Even if he was in 13:06 fitness, do you realise how hard it is to run that time in a non-competitive race? You need alot of people of similar ability, so in a race with a 13:33 guy + Joey Bags, and some time off, why would he be remotely near 13:06?
Good for Cole to get out to Europe and Race. What an experience. Running and racing is what it is all about. Time is not always the most important factor. He has run 1306 but who says you only get to race when you are in peak form. Run IT and enjoy IT Cole !!
I don't really understand though what is a 21 year old with 1:46 and 3:31 PBs doing running 5000m. Obviously a speed based runner with a deadly kick, so why 5000m (so early)?
One might wonder if he and his coach have a plan to bring him back to fitness and increase confidence at the same time with a few low key races. He is still a 3:31 guy and will probably get back there.

Not now the AIU are watching him after his "mysterious" improvement while they couldn't touch him last year.
If he was going all-out and trying for a personal best, then obviously that's a bad performance. On the other hand, if he was just running it for a workout, and won it easily, then it's hard to fault him. I mean, some low-key meet in Finland, what were you expecting - sub-13?
