NFL expanded practice squad this year -- still outside shot to make the 53 man roster but has a good shot to make a practice squad here or somewhere else. Can do a lot of things in practice with his raw speed. Gonna make more money doing that than in track.
J. Gault - during a live show right before Worlds, I asked the question "What is more likely, will Devon Allen score a touchdown for the Eagles win a world medal on the track?" I commented with touchdown and you laughed at me saying there is NO WAY Devon scores a touchdown this season because he probably won't make the team.
I take my victory lap and head out.
When the regular season starts, all preseason TDs will be irrelevant. But I agree that you can consider it a "good call" in at least some capacity.
Even the blind squirrel finds a nut from time to time. He broke open against third team coverage and made a nice catch but he's been Mr. Stone Hands this entire preseason. The Browns also have a former track guy (Shwartz) who has yet to learn to run crisp routes or catch the ball reliably in year two.
Track guys almost never make it on the field. Allen looks better than Schwartz but that's not saying much.
Brownies have some talent but they will win between 6-9 games. I think they should have gone after Mariota or Winston at QB and saved themselves drama.
Or invested in their D-tackles. Their 3-tech guys aren't that good. They have above-average DEs in Garrett and Clowney but need a veteran DT (or THREE) in that 4-3 defense.
They've had a 4-3 defense for ages, except for the 3-4 from '80 to '88 under Dave Adolph (the DC) and defense-oriented HC Marty Schottenheimer, and again from '05 to '10 (Romeo Crennel and Eric Mangini). Since then they've run a 4-3 defense (Jauron/Shumur, Chud, Pettine/O'Neill/Hue/Gregg Williams/Freddie Kitchens and now Stefanski/Joe Woods).
Devon Allen and the Eagles are a good team built around speed. They will contend with Dallas for the division. Dallas doesn't have Amari Cooper to take the top off either.
Hers the Tim Tebow of wide receivers. A lot of attention for being charismatic and effective in college but doesn’t cut it at the NFL level.
The difference is that Allen was actually worldclass at another sport not just effective in college. If he fails in the NFL he still has WC next year and the Olympics the year after.
Skeets wasn't really successful in the NFL but that didn't diminish his track legacy.

Hahaha - how ironic.
Just like fanboys who assumed Allen had the gold at worlds wrapped up, you are taking a "victory lap" when he hasn't even scored a real TD.

The season hasn't started yet. This is the PRE-seqson. It is right in the name, it is before the season. Come back when he scores a TD during the season.

Still the DL points leader. Not too late to run Zurich and get the auto.

Nope, Holloway gets the auto even if Allen were to win the DL.
