Just an example of why the sport is faltering. In the NFL, MLB, etc, rules are transparent and officials comment on why they made the decision. And the American who was dq’d happens to be one of the best known track athletes
Judges should have taken into account how popular the athlete was and ignored the rules. Worked out well for Olympic figure skating.

This rule is about as transparent as one can get. Using an electronic system, there is a cut off limit and anyone out before it is disqualified - no explanation required.
I prefer giving the field one false start before a DQ, but the current system is as fair as one can get.
That was the previous rule and finals would be ruined by numerous false starts and you still saw runners getting a DQ
I too feel horrible for Allen but the competition was outstanding tonight. Unfortunately all sports have seen bigger injustices.
Guess what? It turns out that Devon Allen didn't false start after all.
It's been discovered that the reaction timing system was set up incorrectly and all the runners reaction times were being recorded as .02 too fast. His .099 reaction time was actually only .119 seconds. He got DQ'd for no reason! What a mess!

Yes, he was robbed. We've all seen bad calls in super bowl games, world series games, boxing matches, the world cup. It sucks, he and the 2 ladies in the 100 were robbed.

The problem is that unless they fix the problem, it could happen again at some point during the next week.
So you’d say a nonsensical dq like this is fine for the sport? Wouldn’t make people confused? What are your top reasons the sport isn’t popular then?
Reacting to the starting gun quicker than 0.10 has been called a false starts for over two decades. You people act brand new to the rule. The number of false starts before being disqualified has changed over the years. Devon Allen has ran his entire life with the one false start and DQ rule. He knows the rules. Apparently you and many others didn't.
Allowing Allen to continue is like saying in any other sport, the ball only touched the line, it wasn't way over the line. The line is out. Less than 0.10 is a false start and has been for decades. If you don't like it, then get it changed.
Another reason our sport struggles is that there are HUGE gaps between events. That is totally not necessary. Also, it is tough to get popular is that sports news tells us what is important and if you go on espn.com you find very little information about the World Athletics Championships. Very few in the US even know that it is going on. Hard to watch when you have no idea it is happening. Meanwhile the WNBA is rammed down our throat.
