Nanyondo successfully appealed getting pushed and she is now in the 1500 final.
I understand Sabbatini getting DQ'd for the push. But the only reason Sabbatini pushed Nanyondo was because Nanyondo was running out of gas and was in her way. Even Sabbatini didn't qualify for the final, so there was no way that the slower finishing Nanyondo would have qualified either.
I'm not saying that Nanyondo realized she wasn't going to make the final, and took a dive on purpose so hopefully she would get in on an appeal. But I don't think that runners who are running out of gas and clearly wouldn't have made the final, should be advanced to the final.
There has to be some rules about who gets in when they trip. What if they are 30 meters back with a lap to go and they trip. Should they get in to?
If that was the case, runners would just start flopping like they do in basketball and soccer.
Nanyondo shouldn't be in the final.
Are you just trolling or are you just stupid? You cannot tell the difference between someone pushing you and you tripping? Really? I just can't with some of you people.
There was NO push. Nanyodo was tripped from behind. You can see Sabbatini stumble each time she clips Nanyondos heels. After several times Nanyondo finally went down. There was NEVER a push. Most of you must be blind. Watch it again.

Please explain, how can we watch it if we are blind?
replay literally shows the italian's hands on nanyondo 2-3 times then unmistakable elbow then she goes down. do we all not have the same access to the replay or were there 2 races?
It doesn't really matter if she was elbowed or clipped from behind with a foot. She was jostled around quite a lot and the contact then put her on the floor. As the commentators pointed out, she was in a qualifying position when she fell. A lot of people look like they're running out of gas and then pull out a great finish. Look at the finish of the women's 10K. If we'd looked at that 100m or so out, we may not have predicted the correct order at all!
I do think the screaming and yelling was a bit much though. But if she hadn't done that, if she'd quietly and immediately gotten up and run to the finish, not speaking - would she have gotten through? A bad lesson really, but you have to wonder...

Not sure what you are watching. She was tripped not pushed.
If, in the opinion of the appropriate Referee, circumstances arise at any competition such that justice demands that any event or any part of an event should be contested again, they shall have authority to declare the event or any part of an event void and that it shall be held again, either on the same day or on some future occasion, as they shall decide. (See also Rules 8.4 and 17.2 of the Technical Rules).
It should be carefully noted by Referees and Juries of Appeal that, except in very special circumstances, an athlete who does not finish a race, should not be advanced to a later round or included in a re-run of an event.
It seems like the Referee and Jury of Appeals decided that "very special circumstances" existed in this case.
yep. always thought it was bad for the sport that Jim Ryan( there was no reinstating back then) fell at Munich even though it probably helped the legend Rod Dixon on his way to bronze .. 12 or 13 in the final makes no difference and she did fall in the home straight so its not like she takes any advantage of being fresher into the final . good luck to Mcsqueezy, Stuey and skaterboy tanner in the semis.
This. And Ryun got up and ran like a bad ass to try and qualify. Not a quitter or drama queen.
I heard him talk about this one time and he said he was told behind close doors that he was fouled but that they hadn't advanced anyone before (or something like that) and they weren't going to do it then, come back in four years and try again.
Oscars aside, she should run in the finals and the fouler DQ'd. Pretty clear call, even though she looked like she was going backwards at that point.

She shouldn't run in the finals. She didn't finish the race or even make an effort to do so.
The push may have sent her off stride and even caused her to stagger a little, because when you are in that final stretch and your momentum is interrupted, it takes a gigantic effort to get back up to speed again. So the push could have prevented her from making the final, but it definitely did not make her fall, she did that on her own as a dramatic gesture.
Let her and Sabbatini run a 1500 time trial. If either one runs fast enough to qualify for the final, they're in. If nothing else, we may have some new recruits for WWE or UFC.

Interestingly in the second semi, it looked like Kumari Taki took a decent shove early and ate it. He didn't do anything dramatic, got up, reattached, but then got dropped later. Feels like the shove on him wasn't as big as Nanyondo, but he also didn't do anything extra (which is admirable). Don't know if he appealed, but he is not in the final. The earliness of the fall and his lack of competitiveness at the end is probably the reason, but in a 3:33-3:35 race that was quick from the jump you'd have to be in 3:29-3:30 shape to be able to probably withstand it.
I would have DQed Sabbatini but not reinstated Nanyando. She was running backwards when she was impeded. No way she would have qualified or the final, without an apppeal.
According to Steve Cram, if an athlete -in a qualifying position - is deliberately fouled in the last 100m -and it effects them negatively -they can be advanced to the next round.
