You trolling hard man! There was never a mountain Champs where Zach was 2nd to an athlete testing positive. Got a link to prove that? Also, you said initially he won, but now you say 2nd... make up your mind bud. Your posts are bipolar!
Just kind of shows you how flat times don't necessarily correlate with mountain fitness. I think Heath did a great job. From Citius Mag: " GARRETT HEATH: Not completely, because I think there are those who are really underestimating trail running and think they could just step in and take over. They have no idea what they’d be getting into and would get absolutely annihilated. But the feedback I got early was to prepare to be horrible at first and to proceed with caution. It’s not the track – there is another skill set here that you need to develop over time. Maybe there haven’t been a ton of track athletes who have transitioned over, but there have been some good ones who did it successfully like Jim Walmsley, Joe Gray, Adam Peterman and Max King. It’s hard to feel a ton of pressure right off the bat because it is so underestimated by the track world. I don’t even know if it’s even considered at all."

Same. Anyone thinking Heath would beat Gray on a course like this clearly hasn’t seen the course. Had all my money on Gray winning. I too thought Heath would be top 3.
Anyway, all the talk about temperature is frankly irrelevant.
NE did well because (1) it's just closer so better northeast guys came out and (2) NE trails are different. They're generally steeper and more technical. These guys were training specifically for loon, whereas heath is more general trail shape.
