You said that she is a piece of crap but wonder why people don't like her. You cam dislike someone who is good for the sport. You can pull for her to do well for the sport while hating her.
For what it's worth, I agree with some things with the original post. She does make you watch. But I've written a little analogy of her behavior that I think is pretty accurate.
Imagine back to your high school days.
A new kid, Sammy Richards, moves to your school and after a hot hand playing basketball against some JV guys in one gym class, Sammy starts talking about how they're the best ball player in school. The kid then goes out of their way to talk smack to the best seniors in the school.
Everyone can't wait to see how this mouthy new kid does against the big guns at varsity tryouts, but Sammy gets himself suspended for smoking pot and so doesn't get to compete against the best guys in the school.
He continues to talk smack, but eventually when they all play pick up at the end of the year Sammy gets his butt handed to him not just by the seniors, but by the JV kids too. Kid still somehow insists he's the best, just you wait til next year, but then ends up not making the first cut of tryouts anyway. Sammy then throws multiple public tantrums about how no one respects him. When his classmates talk about how he didn't make the basketball team on social media, Sammy threatens to sue them.
-----
If that kid was in your high school, on a scale of 1-10 how hated would they be? How brutally would they be bullied? How much time or goodwill would anyone have for them? It doesn't matter how talented the kid is, he's still going to be annoying as hell and very difficult to bring yourself to like.
I have been so wishy washy with this girl, my first reaction was.......she brings excitement, entertainment, so cool...,....then she bails on making the team talking rights......that was beyond stupid......not cool.
One thing for sure she has our attention. Who won the ladies 100m, not a word about.....who? Why, yep, no excitement no entertainment there.
Sha' Carri had what 10 threads here, so she generates chatter, gotta be a good thing.
Remember we're talking about LRC posters here. She is not liked here because she is an authentic, outspoken black woman. Strike one is that she's black. Strike two is that she is an outspoken woman. LRC posters prefer skinny, blonde, 'nice' white women who know their place.
What’s really odd about this comment is that Letsrun as a whole seems to love Athiing Mu. Who fits perfectly into your category of black and outspoken.
I am a huge fan of Athiing Mu. She is very respectful, confident yet humble and has a great personality.
Most US pro sprinters both male and female are black, why aren’t they getting the same hate if this is a racism problem? Why is letsrun praising the Jamaican women’s team instead of trashing them?
She is great. Could use some work on messaging and interviews which are a reality now for pro runners. She was off at Nationals but a sprinter can have a bad race and not advance. There is no room to make up ground in a 100m if things are off. I hope she finds her way to some consistency.

Very ignorant take.
Letsrun does not love Mu. Did you forget the thread accusing her of drug use because she got covid and missed Pre? The Brojos dragging her on the front page? The many deleted posts where people call her ugly (“she looks like the predator”)? The many posts by US posters cheering on Hodgkinson over her?
Also, playing off black women against each other and designating one as the good respectable one, and one as the bad one isn’t the “I’m not a racist” flex you think it is. You should tell us how MLK is your hero next.
The current thread on Sha’Carri isn’t just people criticizing her running or being annoyed with her. It’s full of language calling her “ghetto,” a “hood rat,” talking about Nike appealing to “tokenized minorities” and dragging in Kaepernick for some reason…you really think none of that is racial? If it’s not racial stick to criticizing her without characterizing her in clearly racist terms.

The racism creeps in when black people don't conform to the societal norm. In your comment, you said Athing is "very respectful, confident yet humble." That's what our society wants from athletes. We often let white athletes off the hook when they get outside those boundaries, and pass it off as quirky. But as soon as a black athlete does it, people freak out about their behavior and link it to their upbringing or culture or something like that.
The racists are getting better at covering up their true reasons for belittling black athletes who don't conform, but it still does play a role.
Personally, I see Sha'Carri is troubled and I love her for it and root for her because of it. She interprets the world differently than I do but I won't judge her, I hope she resolves her issues in her own style and does not conform.
I would personally rather have 100 Sha'Carris than another athlete talk about how God helped them win or they are just glorifying God or whatever weird religiousness they have.
Even if you think she's a piece of crap, the sport is better off when it's best athletes are at their best.
And clearly she's one of the sport's best athletes at her best, even if she's also (as we used to call it) a headcase. Her underperforming is mental, not physical.
More talented athletes going for it= more stellar performances. It lights a fire underneath everyone else.
You just know that Elaine Thompson was using the anticipation of that rivalry as jet fuel when she blasted that 10.54 in Eugene last year. That kind of thing is the real magic in our sport, and I personally would like to see that 10.49 go down sometime before its 40th anniversary.
False choice, or strange premise at best. No one doesn’t want her to be at her best. It’s normal to criticize or be disappointed when the most promising runner disappoints, especially when it seems likely in good part because of needless distractions.
Even Bekele wasn’t spared criticisms like fat, more interested in hotel management and eating crap, beyond expiry date and what not. The harshest critics are often the ones who really really wanted him to be at his best.

Huge difference between SCR and Mu. SCR flashes peacocky too much. Anyone would get criticized for that much overconfidence without performance. It’s not uncommon to wear small ornaments but the more stuff you keep adding — eyelashes, fake nails, fishnet suit, head bracelet — the more hundredths of seconds it’s costing you. If you win with all that, great. But if you don’t, people are going to criticize that overconfidence.
Her twitter claptrap and poor language skills is another factor. You can’t attribute that to her being black, just being immature.

Those using racist language and hating on both because of race are in a loud minority. Notice how those posts are getting bombarded by downvotes? Which world champion hasn’t been accused of being dopers at one point or another on this site?
Its hilarious that I get called racist for naming an example of a black athlete who is more commonly praised than criticized on this site to counter your argument that shacarri gets the criticism she does just because she’s black. Do you even know what race I am? No, you don’t.
You are correct that there are a good amount of racists on letsrun, but you are incorrect that letsrun as a whole is racist and that shacarri is getting the hate she does because she’s black. She’s getting hate because she’s arrogant, narcissistic, a poor sport, and a horrible example for younger athletes in the sport.

In a sense, I do agree with you.
But on the other hand, letsrun does make fun of anyone that talks the talk and doesn’t walk the walk. Think of Cade Flatt. He has caught lots of flak for how cocky he is, similar amounts to Richardson on this site and he’s gotten a lot closer to his goals than shacarri has.
I think sportsmanship is very important in athletics. It seems you’re implying that we should tolerate and maybe even celebrate those that throw fits and make excuses when they lose, and I can’t stand behind that. To me, excusing that behavior just because someone is black feels more racist than calling out that kind of behavior.

Authentic? Other than the fake hair, fake nails, fake eyelashes, fake boobs, about the only authentic thing about her is her skin tone, and between the clown make-up and tattoos, she's trying her damnedest to cover that up too.

Oh sure you aren’t racist, you don’t dislike her because she’s black. You just dislike the display of black culture and seeing something different. That right there is the subtle racism that people are talking about.
