I am curious-what do you think would have been the reaction to an interview where Hocker (or any guy) bawls like that during an interview? Would he have been lauded and praised so vehemently?
I have no problem with G Thomas getting emotional at post race interview. Ahes leting out all that way emotion inside.
But it is true that you arent going to see men cry like that… maybe once in a blue moon, but men and women are different… thats ok.
Really looking forward to see if Steiner or any other American woman can break into the top 3 in that 200. Based on what ive seen, and the times from the Jamaican ladies, I think Steiner has a decent chance for third or second, and an outside chance for first, if she can continue this trajectory.
If Jackson can come close to duplicating her performance yesterday, she will be almost impossible to beat.
My thoughts exactly, she’s lost that glow and is looking more Ivy level again.
She has been running well all season even defeated shericka jackson two months back running sub 22. Very pathetic to insinuate such a disgusting narrative.
hard not to feel for her there. hope she puts it together for a nice summer run like Kate grace had last year. very easy to root for somebody who puts themself out there like that.
Agreed. Kate went on a tear after nationals. Showed a lot of character.
Yeah, the narrative that this is what she looks like "off the sauce" or "when she has to show up for doping tests" isn't rooted in reality.
She literally opened up her season with a 21.69w, and won the DL in Doha in 21.98, in May. She was running really well, from the interview it sounds like she was going very hard in training and her body just couldn't handle it.
It's very early but I think it'll be 1. Shericka 2. ETH 3. Steiner 4. SAFP
But it could be a case for Shericka like last year where Gabby Thomas peaked early at trials and couldn't sustain it until the Olympics, while ETH just got faster and faster.
Mboma and Thomas being out does change the picture of this race a lot. I wonder if Shericka would have medaled in the 200 at Tokyo if she hadn't made that careless mistake last year.
Could be, but Elaine Thompson-H hasnt really picked it up yet. Maybe she will put it all together again in a few weeks, but I think she has slightly declined due to age and wear. Shes not the dominant force she was. But shes still good enough, even if thats true, to win it all. Its just too hard to really know how much she has left ….. guess we’ll find out.
Yes. Raw clean emotion. I love it and I wasn’t a big fan but speedy recovery. I’ll be rooting for her
Yeah man. Most people here love her more than they wish to admit. Just think: Miller-Uibo doing only the 400, ELH maybe not quite 100%, the WC is an opening for Steiner and Thomas. Thomas was like a sharpened pencil where the tip breaks off. Damn. We will all miss that showdown and we know that it hurts her. Really a tough break for her.
I want to say to her "act like you've been there before," but clearly she hasn't. She sounds like she's the first person to ever have her dreams crushed. Injuries suck but it's nothing to cry about. You just move forward, you have no other choice.
She did say that she has to move forward; she just said between all the crying.
She knows she has to recover and just move forward and she knows shes not the only person to suffer an injury, but she just couldn't control her emotions from coming out.
I Cole Hocker was standing there in front of a camera bawling his head off that would go over well for him? Where? On what planet?
You make a good point. People try to act like everything between men and women is the same and all of the gender related pressures women face. But men face some as well - if a male pro athlete balled, I still think even in 2022, it would be viewed as a bit weird. It shouldn't be.
