Because if you can cruise at 58-59, then 62 in a race feels relaxed
Yes, but there is only a need of running/ cruise them in training at 60-61 sec to get enough maxVO2 speed to break the world record at 5000m and be the first man sub 12:30 .
This is why you will never be more than an amateur.
Where did Paul say he is even thinking about sub 12:40, let alone the WR?

Learn from Mr Kiler's post.
Well, it`s not Paul saying 60-61 sec is enough at this kind of training to break the world record at 5000m . It`s me, the pro coach, making a comment about his workout 16 x 400m at 58-59 sec. ;) Keep to the good.....

I will be waiting for one of your athletes to win an Olympic medal or beat a world record.
We will see, it can happen faster than we think. One of my coahed top runners have the potential to reach the Kenya top and then a chance of an Olympic medal. Now this thread wasn`t about me so I finish my comments here by wishing Paul Chelimo good luck in the World Champs.
In just the last few months, I've seen Jacob Krop, Yomif Kejelcha and now Paul Chelimo all share workouts where they go faster at times than your prescribed pace, COACH JS. Seems like there is some consensus that getting some reps faster is valued by numerous coaches/athletes.
Yes, but they don`t know this type of workout doesn`t need faster pace than 60-61 sec for them to get the desired effect from it. During the years I have chat with the world record holder at 5000 and 10000m mr Joshua Cheptegei some times. First time we chat he told me when he ran 20 x 400m he used to do them in sets 5 X ( 4 X 400m) and progressive , first set 65 sec , second set 64 sec, third set 62-63 sec, fourth set 60-61 sec and fifth set 58-59 sec . And that´s the world record holder. Second time we chat he asked me what I thought he was capable of to run at 5000m that summer . Then he hadn`t run a sub 13 min yet but I looked at the training times he gave me and told him they pointid to about 12:50-12:55 and of course he did some weeks after I had told him it would be.Then if the runner wants to run a world reord at 3000m there is a need of faster race pace repetitions of course. Asbel Kiprop who I coached for a short while in his comeback attempt told me the most reps of 400s he had done was 14 x 400m and 57sec down to 52 sec progressive, but then the purpose of the workout was of course to aim for 1500m/ mile race pace.

So Kejelcha, Krop and Chelimo don't know it but you do? But they are the ones getting the results, not your runners.
As for Cheptegei, he does 20x400 starting at 63 and finishing in 58.
He also runs doubles and 90-100 miles/week. But you say doubles and such mileage are unnecessary.
Not a Paul Chelimo fan, especially after his performance last year at USA 5k where he ran Woody and Grant out to lane 5 in the final 75m.
Not a Paul Chelimo fan, given he hasn’t raced this year in the US due to living and training in Kenya and recently dropped out of the 5k at Pre for no publicized reason. Did his contractual commitment and bailed.
Not a Paul Chelimo fan, due to being part of the US Army team that is exclusively African men and women that gained US citizenship by being part of this team structure at tax payer expense. Granted he and others are not the ones at fault; the apparatus is there to take advantage of and not have to do anything more than basic training.

Again, I guess you know better, right?
Copernicus is a famous man . He told the scientific world of his time that the earth and the other planets circled around the sun and not the sun and the other planets circled around the earth. I´m of course 100 % sure Kejelcha, Krop and Chelimo had run faster race times with me as coach. If I ever get to coach a talented young runner at their levels I will have my first world record holder and Olympic medalist. Now , time for some sleep in Sweden. Over and out. Good night folks! :)

U.S. high school and college cross country caters to 3000mSC to 10000m athletes. You do not like the U.S. Army program for developing 3000mSC to 10000m runners. When was the last time a male born in U.S. who participated in U.S. high school and college system won an Olympic 3000mSC/5000m/10000m medal? You make it seem as if U.S. does not need U.S. Army program to develop male Olympic medalists at 3000m/5000m/10000m.

And these kind of snowflakes make me an even bigger Paul Chelimo fan.
Labeled a snowflake for disliking a dirty runner? I think your head would have popped had Rupp did what Chelimo did in Eugene last summer.
