declaration window closes, katelyn tuohy goes for the 1500m/5000m double - very smart, this is the strongest 1500m and 5000m field she has ever faced, yet. she will learn a lot!
why pick one event when you can enter both and she can run without pressure because no title is at stake!
I don’t care how fast Tuohy runs, she could run under 14, it won’t be an NCAA record. In order to be an NCAA record the event would need to be an NCAA event. The USATF championship is not an NCAA event.
It needs to be during the NCAA season to count as a NCAA record. It does NOT have to be an NCAA event.
NO shame in getting beat by olympians and pro runners 4-9 years older than her LOL BUT watch out for KT !
Also, it's more like double the reason to even get better in the summer... Katelyn feeds of her losses, shes not afraid to lose and be humbled, she hates it hence she works on what she's lacking, to win it next time around.

What will she learn from racing people significantly faster than her? She’s 40 seconds slower than the top 5000m runners. If the pace is 14:50 or faster and she tries to keep up, she’ll have a huge positive split and it will be impossible for her to cover a surge off of a slower pace. Several of the top 1500m women have 2:00 speed so she doesn’t matchup at that distance either.
Maybe she will go on to be an Olympic medal winner but this time around, she’s an also ran.
It's just FUN!!! Tuohy 2E 2E2E2E! See Fun! she second in world for her age! And yes a lot of African runners still have dubious birthdays because of the system there!!! Better yet forget the record just run three races more fun!!! 😁😆😁😆😆😘😘😘😆😘😆
The disgruntled dudek fan, the one who started that thread, it's funny the way you can't take any Sanity when you're making your ridiculous la la Land fantasy threads!!! but when other people are enjoying someone doing well you're full of spit and spite!!! Funny how that works!!!
She will get some more race experience, maybe run a PR, and get a sense of what running at the trials is like. Nothing wrong with that.
This is correct. She won't make the team. The last thing she needs to do is make the team and extend her season another month. But experience is worth something. Ideal scenario to me is she runs a fast 1500 but does not make the final, and then 3 days later gives the 5000 a shot. And then takes some time off.

Making the team would be a fantastic accomplishment and well worth extending her season for a month. She’s not the only distance runner at the USTAF that competed in college this year.

It would be quite an accomplishment. Especially for a distance runner. But, as you point out, she would be an also ran at the WC. I suspect getting ready for another team XC championship means more to her than finishing way back in some race in the WC. The vast majority of the other college distance runners were seniors this year and most of them were in the 1500 I believe and not so much interested in XC. But in any case I can't see her finishing even close to top 3.
