If you carefully watch Jakobs running form in this 800m race, you will notice that he somewhat "sits" and his ground contact is also longer than that of the other runners. He compensates with a strong lean of the upper body though, which makes his stride effective and economical, but less powerful and fluid compared to "true" 800m runners.
Normally people tend to competitively run the shortest distance that their running form is allowing them to be good at.
Jakob never had the speed for 100m-800m, because of the limitations of his running form, therefore he focused on 1500m-5000m. So if he would specifically train for a 800m race only, he might be able to improve to 1:45, but that would be his limit.
I myself spent an entire season focusing on improving my 400m speed only to shave off 0,5s compared to my PB, when focusing on 800m/1500m, clearly a limitation of my running form. And if you work harder then what your stride allows you, injuries begin.
I personally think that being elite in an "under" distance and elite in an "over distance" could make a runner a GOAT in his true distance. That's why Jakob needs that 1:45 800m and that's why Athing Mu needs that 4:20 mile.
