Great to hear. He's had all the ability and training and just needed the occasion. It probably didn't hurt that the weather cooled in FL today after a monster storm last night. The 1:48.52 at states told me he was more than ready for this.
Of course when you have run 4:01 at age 16 and 1:48 at 18 it is no real surprise to then run 3:59 at 18. The kid is obviously talented and may have a 3:57 in him, as you sort of suggested.
The track is again an old 440 yard track one lap around roughly. The start line was measured back 9 meters from the normal 1600 meter line which is further up into the turn.
