The problem is shoes have been progressing since the time of the Nike Cortez.
Seriously, I started running in 1971 and the best shoes available were the Nike Tracksters- my school gave them to us.
Today's minimalist shoes are bulky, motion control compared to those- basically a slab of rubber with a leather upper glued to them. We would use shoe goo to build the heal up as it wore down and re-glue the upper as they detached.
I admit that the super shoes are a huge leap but shoes have come a long way and the science isn't going anywhere.
I have been able to run all this time only because of the technological improvement in shoes AND in the improvements in custom orthotics.
It's difficult to deal with this and you have to ask- where do you draw the line?
