You're correct, I wasn't there. There was just a really slow resonse to it... and that's what I saw.

Maybe it shouldn’t be dismissed that aliens from another planet played a role here, but you have zero evidence that the vaccine played a role and your theory makes no sense to the intelligent.
Spring marathons and halfs have an inherent heat risk because most of the runners have not acclimated to running and training in hotter weather.
When you train in 30-50 degrees and then race in 70-80 degrees, it's a recipe for problems. The news reports said it was 70 degrees and 83% humidity at 9AM, but I'd bet that it was much hotter on the course in the sun.
Sure, but no one will take such a comment from you seriously when the entire thing stinks of such obnoxious paranoia and bias. There is clearly a much more likely contributing cause here (high heat/humidity, 10s of thousands of participants for something to go wrong). You howling like an inebriated ape about vaccine OBVIOUSLY being the sole factor here is no different than me shouting about the new bakery that opened up last week OBVIOUSLY causing this. I've been vaxed, boosted, f***ed, you name it and I am fitter than ever this spring
Can happen to anyone. Few years ago (2016) I ran a half on an unusually hot spring day. I was in my mid-40’s at the time, but whatever. Was running under 1:20 pace, which was sort of okay but the Nuun they were dispensing wasn’t sitting well.
I vaguely remember projectile vomiting at the finish line and I remember vaguely being packed in ice and given an IV. Eventually I was released and rode my bike home with a friend who waited 3-4 hours because I had the keys to the lock and I guess he knew somehow I was in the medical area.
Couple weeks later I get the photos and finish line video and it’s me being carried across the line by two strangers. The video shows them putting me in a wheelchair and me being wheeled away. I have no memory of this whatsoever. Like nada. I lost probably two hours of my life to heat exhaustion. Not exactly sure of my time. 1:23 I think and the graph on Strava shows me moving along and then boom, then slowly crawling the last 1km. Must have been while being carried.
I do know that when I walked out of there the place was flooded with people in terrible condition who were attempting a full marathon.
It reminded me that in Chicago 91’ I saw people pass out on Lakeshore Drive while we were running in the final 10km. One dude lost his front teeth. Heat is a killer.
You deliver the shock when the defibrillator tells you to.

It's the first truly hot day in NYC this year. Most people have had limited ways to get acclimated.

I hate seeing heartbreaking stories like this. RIP to the runner. We had a couple runners pass away in our area in the past few years. All in good shape and under the age of 40. It freaked me out.
This is one reason why I gave up being a serious marathoner, putting in 80MPW+, running in everything from snow and freezing, all the way through hot and humid conditions.
30-35MPW is now plenty, all easy miles, and treadmill anytime the weather is dangerous (icy, very hot etc.).
The Harpoon 5 Miler is scheduled for 10 AM tomorrow in Boston. I wonder if the race organizers are considering a postponement.
People die.
Since so many people are running these days, people are dying in races as well. It's a numbers game. And it's probably not helping that every Joe Schmoe thinks he needs to run a HM or Marathon with almost no training.
I did a 15k last weekend in ATL. Low 70s and super high humidity. Absolutely brutal. Several ppl needed medical assistance during and afterwards. I completely wilted, and I felt super fit coming into it. The early summer races tend to hit you like a ton of bricks due to the humidity. My guess is this is a similar situation.
I think you mean it’s not good for everybody. Good for a lot of people though
I had a long hot race too today and I gave myself permission to stop whenever I want to. Which I did.
This happens all the time. People like Stewey run real fast then are suddenly slower than high schoolers all the time. Nothing to see here.

I see racing in the heat as something totally separate from running in the heat. If one listens to their body, knows their limitations when it comes to heat and humidity, I don't think the risks are that great.
