Think like $8.1k take home. Living at home with parents so 0 housing expense.
You make a 100 something a year a stay with your mom?
Yeah 170k and living at home lol. I was in the city before, but moved back because of covid. Have done a few trips, like last summer went to Europe. But I should move out soon... just don't know where is worth going. $2-3k+ for an appt in the city seems like a total waste.
You realize 2% of 330 million is about 6.5 milllion people, right?
Yes I do. There have only been a few responses so far, mostly proud top earners and trolls. Perhaps the poors will be along shortly to confess their station.
Here I am! Take home after taxes, insurance, etc is $3750/month (45k/year). House is paid off so no mortgage.
Don’t want to say my take home, but it’s healthy. After taxes, max 401K, health insurance, my take home is just over half of my gross. Not as healthy as several have posted here.
15 yr Mortgage (including taxes and insurance) is about 25% of take home. Electric, water, landscaping take up another 7%.
I spend about 60% on wife, kids, clothes, food, car payments, gas and travel. That leaves about 8% to go to savings, beyond the 401K.
There is definitely some fluff In that 60% that I could cut back on, but it’s nice to not have to count every penny.
jamin, the beauty of America is that you are free to move. You remind me of those who live near power plants or refineries, then complain about cancer. You're educated enough to move, you don't need to live there.. simply takes effort or else it's like you're complaining about the weather.
5833 a month before taxes, tsp deductions, union dues, health insurance, dental insurance. No life insurance because what I do isn't too dangerous and I'm fit and active.
I take home like 36k a month? Not sure, recently changed my tsp a bit.
I get about 1000 more a month from overtime - but its very uneven
Rent is 1680 a month for me, other expenses are close to 1.4k? and take home is like 3600

Carlsbad is about 1/2 the price of Seattle.
I know someone is going to mention CA property taxes. While true, houses in southern CA are built a lot better than in the PNW, so you're probably paying less in property taxes than you would in maintenance costs on some flimsy craftsman house in Seattle.
I’m starting to think you just buy a house when you need it, unless it’s an investment property.
This is usually the correct answer. Don't overspend. I under bought once just cause I'm cheap and I ended up moving in under two years, which was a big PITA. Where you live and how you live is a constant that is always around you. You will see the value in this. I'll also add that we both drive crappy cars. I see no value whatsoever in a Lexus vs a used Camry.
