This is a running forum, please stay on topic.
Loved these clips. Thank you for sharing. Note to track commentators: you have to be a committed fan of the sport AND work tirelessly to know everyone in the race.
Greatest anchor leg ever:
Mine that Bird at the 2009 Kentucky Derby was also impressive. He came back from a seemingly insurmountable deficit. 800m in, the commentator almost forgot to mention him in the line up because he was so far off the back.
Full race is with the watch:
It looks like Rich Strike came right up from the depths of hell…
The most impressive finish I've seen:
Good troop announcer wrote:
“Look at Strike! Look at Strike! Aaaawooohooohooo!”
Network official: “YOU’RE FIRED!”
Exactly......spot on.
How many of these horses get taken out by a bolt gun? Horse racing is messed up.

you have to be lucky enough to have some one 'slow' in front of you.
Obea Moore was a 45.1 guy.
if he'd split 44 flat it would be impressive

That was good but I like the girl that fell down in that indoor track meet that got back up to win.
What were the odds on that horse?

This is truly amazing on so many levels.
Please tell me of a better finish to any race of significance in the history of the world.
As others have posted, this is quite common in horse racing.
Still not as good as this:
This thread would incomplete without this relay.

80-1 and Rich Strike wasn't even supposed to be in the race. Not sure how to compare it to a track performance. As another poster mentioned, maybe Billy Mills in Tokyo 1964, or had Sam Prakel run the race of his life to win this year's World Indoor 1500 final.
There's got to be a past XC performance where an overlooked scrub worked her/himself from 50th+ place to the top....
No scholarship limits anymore! (NCAA Track and Field inequality is going to get way worse, right?)
