- Calls everyone 'their family' and throws "we" into everything to feign inclusion
*People like to feel included and cared for. Doesn't matter if it's a parasocial relationship. And I bet running vloggers do care about their viewers as it gives them a living.
- Claims to have a unique perspective on something, which is rarely ever clarified or unique
* This feels like general criticism of really anyone ever. Most thoughts aren't unique, chances are even if they repeat common knowledge it'll be new to someone anyways so who cares as long as they're not scamming people.
- Has people send them money and/or donate to be affiliated and 'support' the person
* Have you ever heard of a business? People that donate likely can afford to anyways so why is this problematic?
- People spontaneously send this person and their family gifts, just to be mentioned
* You're creating a false conclusion here. People do things because they want to. Also, businesses send people things in hopes they'll get a free shout out does that also bother you?
- The followers will flock to meeting the person, with no real understanding of why, or to do what
*Again, what is your point here? You dislike meet ups? Okay... dont go?
- Is cagily private about some truths in their own life, in order to keep a superficial persona going
*People can have secrets. Having a secret kid is unrelated to being a vlogger.
- Rarely admits when they're wrong and twists it into a lesson or some unplanned win
*Unrelated to running channels in general. This is a problem with personality type... Not a common theme among running vloggers lol.
- Completely avoids discussing certain failings
* If the public is aware they failed it then it doesnt need to be addressed. Why are you so insistent that everything be discussed with viewers?
- Appeals mostly to the least educated members of the public, on the topic that is being discussed
*This just feels manipulative lol. Most people are undereducated on running anyways. Normalizing running is a great thing so who cares if they (according to you) appeal to the least educated.
- Will try and pass off some item to their followers if it benefits themself, regardless of if it is actually useful to the people
* Yep, have you ever heard of a sponsor? Or... personal responsibility?
- Will often just endlessly ramble with no substance, just regurgitated cliches that sound inspirational but actually could be from an advert in a mens toilet
* I like listening to people ramble
Question: am I describing a cult leader, or a Running-YouTuber?
I'm sick of these folks. No prizes for guessing which one in particular I'm thinking of. And this isn't even mentioning the fact that most of them just copy content ideas off eachothers old videos. Very little original stuff anymore. The mind boggles.
