Not a huge fan of the Tin Men as a whole, but I really like Reed. He's clearly a good dude with a healthy, admirable approach to his training and life.
2:10:54 for Reed at Boston, for 16th overall, 5th American. Has he now surpassed Drew, Parsons, etc in the TME pecking order?
Why do Tinman (and probably other American groups) write something like 5th american? I mean this is not the US champs so who cares? He was 16th!!! not 5th!!!...
It's a good run but come on.
Lol.
you can’t even get 5th in your age group at a turkey trot.

I don't understand why people who have never run probably within an hour of this guy in a talk so dismissively about a solid performance. Most of us would be happy to finish 1st in our age group in a local road race (and justifiably so). This guy just set a p.r., running sub 5 pace at the Boston marathon...and you get morons on here scoffing about it. If they aren't just trolling, they must be among the most miserable losers walking the planet, projecting their own self-hatred onto others.
This is Jim Kiler, have you done anything to try to help Americans close the gap, or are you just another Skip Bayless type, who likes to s hit on people with the actual talent and likes to believe he is more competitive than actual good athletes?
I am sure you are really motivating to your runners with your bummer attitude. Do you say, "Not going to beat the Kenyans with that time," when you have a runner win the state title? Doofus.
Reed usually always has a solid race when he toes the line.
His last several races have been really good and he dealt with a knee injury during his Boston build up.
I hope Reed doesn't abandon the track and keeps grinding away at lowering his 10,000 and 5,000 pbs. It will only increase his ceiling for the marathon.
2015, we are going back to 2015? Currently Reed is the best runner on the team I'd say. Hunter had some ok results this year though. Might be getting out of his rough patch. But over the last couple years Reed has had the most impressive results in the group.
If you are talking about their historic accolades, that'd be different. But that seems not a useful convo.

Ah, dissing a guy as if a 2:10:54 sucks! Now, how many men have ever run the Boston Marathon? How does 2:10:54 rank among those tens of thousands of runners? Yeah, it ain't sub 2:10, or even more spectacular, and it was 16th, but it's still outstanding. It's a 4:59.6 per mile, and "5th American" is still worth crowing about - by Tinman Elite, by anyone.
I guarantee if that guy placed top 1000 in Boston he'd be bragging about it for the rest of his life. It's what overdosing on copium looks like for someone who doesn't have the dedication to train at a high level but wishes they could put down a single ok performance.

If you watch any of the recent videos it has been clear he is the best runner there for awhile now. I don't even think Boston is close to his top potential yet either even though this year's course was probably worth about 2:08 at a Chicago or faster European course. This is a guy who is very capable of being a top 3 American at the next trials and you have to remember that puts him in at least 2:07 territory (Korir). Say what you will about Tinman elite, it is impossible to dislike Reed.

But how does that detract from his point?
Thanks, it does not detract from my point at all. Do I have to be a 2:09 marathoner to put forward criticism to Reeds 5th american?.. + I wrote that it was a good run / so I am not saying he did bad :) Also, I am not american so I do not do turkey trots.. Do you run around after turkeys?
What I don't get is why americans state "5th american"? Kenyans wouldn't care less about being "5th Kenyan".. I am asking, because I do not get it.
To be honest I think Reed is the most likeable of the Tinmen, so again, do not take it as an attack to your fellow american (to the snowflakes).
