This is the type of post I'm looking for. A good response. 14:32 at age 16 is quite good. Now I see big talent. Thank you. Instead someone is complaining that I made a thread worth clicking on.
I have no issues with your post BUT when you say part of your job is to make a boring sport interesting one day at a time and you use that to justify a misleading thread title you must recognize that you are admitting that you are like a reporter for the National Enquirer who might slightly fabricate and say part of his job is to make a boring life on planet earth interesting one day at a time.
nice clickbait title and way to disparage this dude. at least you're consistent.
he went 2:09:06 in his debut may 23 2021, represented Brazil at the Olympics 11 weeks later and dnf'd just like 30% of the field did, then went 2:06:11 last december.
so he was previously 6 seconds away from breaking Costa's record in just the 2nd marathon he's finished. and now picks up a pr by 80 seconds.
just stop with your trashing already. or change the title to "23-year old Brazilian with pb of 2:06:11 runs 2:04:51..." but you won't do that, ofc since you like to use the board to spread negativity and incite drama.
you're turning 50 next year. time to grow up.
I left out the 2:06 because if I start a thread entiteld, "2:06 marthoner runs 2:04" no one cares.
So the title it a tiny bit misleading but I always say part of my job is "making a boring sport interesting one day at a time." I could have just as well started basically the same thread when he ran 2:06.
These first two sentences perfectly sum up both this website and this particular brojo.
A cognizant choice to choose drama and sensationalism (via misleading, poorly researched facts) over quality, grounded content.
Why the anger? I'm not trashing the guy. I'm highlighting his exploits. Please tell me where else in the English speaking world is this guy being talked about?
I got a text from a guy stunned by the performance. I looked up his pbs and was stunned as well. So I started the thread. I left out the 2:06 because if I start a thread entiteld, "2:06 marthoner runs 2:04" no one cares.

It's basically the same thread.
Rojo grow up. The guy is a 2:06 marathoner. THAT’S how he ran 2:04.
and no, you do not make the sport more interesting. You make the sport stupider with your stupid posts
You’re borderline illiterate and you cannot formulate articulate thoughts
Danielzinho(little Daniel) is a very talented guy.
He quit the sport back in 2019 due to lack of sponsorship/support.
After making a comeback He showed rapid improvement and has been training in Kenya for a while.
In Brazil, our Best runners will often have weak/slow track PRs as they normally lean towards road racing where there is more money.
Danielzinho just seems to adapt to the marathon very well. He lead the entire race of his 2:09 debut, ran with the leaders at the olympics untill dropping out and ran with the leaders to run a 2:04
He ran a 1432 in 2014 as a 16 year old and a 2913 as an 18 year old. Those are very solid times. The only funny part was the lack of progression in his early 20s. You sometimes see that with injuries.

So a “good response” is anyone who agrees with you?
He forgot to mention that Daniel's quoted times (8:49 in steeplechase, for instance) were achieved in 2016/2017, i.e., when he was 17/18.
Daniel used to train alone in Brazil when he went to a training camp in Iten, Kenya. Since then he lives and trains in Kaptagat together with Titus Ekiru and Elisha Rotich, for example.

This. And the wormy, defensive and tone deaf responses to the criticism.

Follow him on Insta. Seems legit, but of course we can never know everything 100%. Brazil has a strong tradition in the marathon, unlike most of its neighbors (Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, and other South American countries, but respect to Colombia, Ecuador and these days Peru for producing good level marathoners - in Peru, thanks to Professor Rodolfo Gomez’s successful coaching stint for a few years).
Rojo - I agree with you that at face value, Daniel’s times appear to defy logic, but super shoes and training developments have contributed to ordinary looking track times to convert to very good Marathon times, also remembering that many of these guys focus almost exclusively on half and full marathons. Yesterday in Boston, The King (another one) - Geoffrey Kamworor, could only manage 18th and 2:11:40 in Boston.
There are so many Marathon outliers including Nic Navarro, France, who ran 2:08:56 recently, but who has trouble running under 29:40 for 10 km road or track.

Danielzhino ran with guts in the Olympics, just like Salpeter, and others.
