I'm curious but remind me of an Olympic champion with a beard.
Lasse Viren, 4 gold medals.
I see that Viren gets multiple responses. I guess that must be because we can't think of anyone else who was a champion and bearded. Maybe better for most to shave it off. (I also suspect blood-doping had more to do with Viren's medals than his being hirsute.)
At 5' 8" and 135 pounds, I got very little notice at work and even less attention from the ladies. Grew a beard and keep it well groomed, all of a sudden senior managers ask for my opinions in meetings and my love life also improved. I recommend growing a beard if you can. It does wonders for small, thin distance runners by making you appear more masculine and confident.

So you only need a beard if people think you're a loser?

Masculine and confident? They think you're a gnome and are hoping that your magic powers will aid in decision making.
I have found that I am not getting the attention or respect I need from other runners. At the same time distant runners with those overgrown beards seem to be looked to as hardcore, old school grinders. Almost like they are living off the grid. At one with nature.

Lasse Viren is the obvious one, but Margita Gummel was another I think
