I'm not sure I've ever seen someone come from this far behind in a 200.
First time I saw Tommie Smith run was a 4x2 in Fresno. He got the stick a solid 10yards down to New Mexico's 20.5 man Bernie Rivers, a national class 200 man. Yep Smith brought the crowd to their feet as he proceeded to run down Rivers blowing by him with five yards to go. 19.8ish split or so I have read.
One of those WOW! moments at the Penn Relays was an amazing come from way back 4x2 anchor by Renaldo Nehemiah. He started out a good 15 yards down to LSU hurdler Orlando McDaneil, yep another woooooooooooo!!!! as Nehemiah ran him down. Did the same thing in te 4x4 running down 45.5 cat Tim Dale.
I was in Fresno for this one. Houston McTear was now at Cerritos JC here in Cali, he would anchor the 4x2. Like Smith and Nehemiah he got the stick a good 10-12ish down then he here he came as the crowd freaked out, he blew by these JC guys as if they were standing still, hit the tape with a ho hum look on his face.
