Because there are 598 schools being represented and 255 heats across events. That is a lot of athletes. I don't envy the logistics nightmare Rich Gonzales goes through every year. Super glad he does do it though! Arcadia is a great meet :)
I guess afternoon has become evening for when people will know if they are in? Or will it become tomorrow? Imagine being a school trying to plan travel.
Adam Olson from Newbury Park (a senior). The new NP superstar runner.
1:58.2 in his first 800m in HS on March 17th. Then 1:54.8 in his second 800m (9 days later).
Also went from 51.98 in his first HS 400m on March 5th to 50.69 on March 22nd.
I’m pretty sure he could go sub 4:20 at Arcadia. It would make one more sub 4:20 guy on the team this year (10 guys with sub 4:20 PBs on the team this year).

Adam Olson is not entered. In the boys' invitational 3200 very few of the big name out-of-state runners are entered. Zane Bergen is entered in several events so we'll see if he lines up in the 3200.

Surprised more top guys didnt show up. No sherrys, none of the fast milers from NBN except Zane bergen, none of the great junior hopes: burns, gorze, cox, ross or burgess. Oh well, its not like any of them could beat the Newbury bro's anyway. Caudillo should get dragged along to a pretty comfortable 5th. (6th?)

Hard to speculate about the no-shows. For those on the East Coast travel costs could be a factor. Also, it's still early in the season so maybe for those in colder climates they're not quite ready to put the hammer down.
I wouldn't sleep on Kenan Pala either after his runner-up at Eastbay ahead of Gavin Sherry. Pala, Caudillo, and Bergen should be able to get pretty close to 8:40 if not break it, and I wouldn't be surprised if they can hang onto Newbury for at least 2000m. One bad day like Lex's 8:43 or Aaron's 4:11 and Newbury can be beaten.
It's possible, but considering the NP boys will probably have to pace themselves it can get tricky. My guess is somewhere in the 8:24-8:28 range.
I'm expecting Colin to lead the whole time like he did last year or for the four to exchange the lead, so it'll probably be closer to 8:26-8:31 for Colin.

Listen bro I like Pala he's a great runner but hes overrated as hell because of eastbay. He only got second because (a) hes a gdeat hill runner, not so much a track runner and (b) he lives rifht next to the damn course. He ran 14:50s on woodward park, he lost to Tyrone Gorze at eastbay west, and he hasnt even broken 9 yet in his life. Is he really gonna go from 9:02 to 8:40?
His "best case" scenario is as you described: Lex or Aaron's "off day" scenario. (Which, even then is somewhat of a stretch, considering hee fact that the 8:43/4:11 were moreover timetrials than races)
Sorry if I sound like im hating on Kenan or stanning Newbury, but im just telling it how I see it. I predict 1-4, (and im actually serious about that; my nbn 4xmile prediction was a little fascetious) but if they dont get it I predict Aaron will be the one to get beat, and I predict Zane Bergen'll be the one to do it.
Here are the entries for the boy's invitational 3200 with notes if they are entered in any additional races. I anticipate most of the athletes entered in both the invitational mile and 3200 scratching for one or the other.
1. Sean Lacey - entered in seeded 4x1600 on Friday and open DMR on Saturday 2. Max Sannes 3. Sam Rich 4. Wes Shipsey - entered in invitational 4x1600 on Friday and open 4x400 on Saturday 5. Christopher Caudillo 6. Zachary Ayers - entered in open DMR on Saturday 7. Kenan Pala 8. Amiri Whittle - entered in seeded mile on earlier Saturday 9. Brayden Seymour - entered in invitational mile only 20 minutes before the 3200 10. Logan Marek 11. Braden King 12. Isaac Teeples 13. Aidan Puffer 14. Jayden Nats - entered in seeded mile earlier on Saturday 15. Nick Falk 16. Daniel Appleford 17. Aaron Sahlman 18. Colin Sahlman 19. Leo Young 20. Lex Young 21. Zane Bergen - entered in invitational mile 20 minutes before the 3200, invitational DMR right after the 3200, and open 4x400 earlier in the afternoon on Saturday 22. Ethan Coleman 23. Isaiah Givens 24. Jacob Laney 25. Bryce Gilmore 26. Milo Skapinsky - entered in invitational 4x800 on Friday and open DMR Saturday afternoon 27. Zack Munson 28. Michael Maiorano - entered in seeded 4x1600 on Friday and open DMR Saturday afternoon 29. Emmanuel Sgouros 30. Shane Brosnan - entered in invitational mile *20 minutes before the 3200* and invitational 4x800 on Friday 31. Conor Gibson

Zane Bergen is the top threat to the NP 4. Another runner who should do well is Chris Caudillo, who appears to be rounding into form. He's a junior, like the Young Bros., and finished right behind Lex Young in the APU mile, running 4:05. He also ran 8:51 as a sophomore, so he should be in the mix.
The only person that can give the NP guys a run for their money (IMO) is Zane Bergen. He ran a 4:02 mile a couple weeks ago as a "rust buster" and his 14:09 5k at RunningLane proves he has the endurance to go under 8:40. I think he'll take down either Lex, Leo, or Aaron. Colin seems untouchable at this point though.
