I'm looking for socks that are easy to darn. Any links to those?
Also looking for some vintage Chris Evert socks with the pink pom poms on the back.
TIA.
1€ per pair in Decathlon
When I was running competitively I did not wear socks. Now that I run occasionally I sometimes wear socks and have run in these for a long time: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RN2CWDC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1&psc=1. They are very thin and don't feel like I am wearing anything (my preference). The cushioned ones are just so uncomfortable for me and I never understood wearing a thick sock for running. Even when I was running ultras I would run without socks. Your feet pay a price when you start out and when you change shoes, but if you are a runner you are used to a little pain.
Get them at https://www.decathlon.com/ and many more good quality but cheaper outdoor stuff.
Costco pack of 6 cool max socks for 13.00
What's the criteria for socks to require replacement? When they have a hole? I have socks that have lasted for several years. I guess I could toss them out after 3-5 years as a rule,

My mother used to say that nowadays people darn socks by looking at the hole, saying "darn it!" and tossing it out

Wrightsocks do not have the asymmetrical fit you describe, but I've been happily wearing them for more than 20 years. Their retail price is around $15, but you can often find them on sale for <$10 per pair. With the exception of their thinnest, lightest weight ones, they've all lasted at least 5 years for me; many of them have lasted for close to 10 years.
I have pairs of Wrightsocks that are 15 years old and have been through high mileage summers on the Texas Gulf Coast. They are not pretty, but they still feel good and have not worn out at all. You get what you pay for.

This. Why are you wussies so beholden to socks? Calluses are free.
Marshalls, tx max always has nike racing socks that are retail 18$ for 3$, i just picked up a nice pair or adidas 3 pack for 3.99$. I never pay full retail for socks.
Socks are all pretty much made in one giant factory in Hunan, China. How much they cost depend on who is selling them. Your local dollar store should have as good as any other.
