Congratulations on a great career Scotty!
Congratulations on a great career Scotty!
Never heard of the guy until I saw posts about his retirement
LRC posters: “America doesn’t have enough sub 2:10 marathoners!”
LRC poster when a sub 2:10 runner retires: “who?”
Congrats to Scott on a solid career.

I can guarantee you that of the top 15 men, most LetsRun posters could not tell you much about more than about 3 or 4 of these guys and most posters could tell you almost nothing about most of them.

You mean the Hoka “super shoes”???
He’s probably 2:08 low if he actually wears super shoes.
I bet the going back and forth between flagstaff and LA was a lot. He is also expecting a baby with his wife which is probably why he decided to retire now.
Possibly 2:07-mid to 2:08-flat with super shoes.
Like you say, Rocket X is no super shoe. Other studies have found benefits in the marathon of 1:45 for top men and 3:30 for top women. Assuming top men are 2:03 types rather than 2:09/2:10, I think I'd be fair to guesstimate about 2:00 benefit for Scott if he were in the NVF2.

It is true that ignorance runs rampant around here, but most people understand it's not something to be proud of.
Congratulations to Smith on a solid career. I hope Fauble isn't on the same trajectory.

Don't disrespect Scott Smith like that when this website is actually willing to talk about runners & ones who should be heroes for any blue collar types out there. Debuted with a 2:16 at CIM. Ended his career with a 2:09. Good performances at the Trials. Good performances at majors. Made a Worlds team. By all accounts super hard working & a good teammate. He embodied what they created at NAZ Elite. Rosario did a great write-up in the team newsletter.
Seems to be more behind.
Why should someone retire short after a 02:09h PB in marathon?
That makes no sense to me, maybe a mental thing ...??
Have many of the people on here never run competitively? An athlete loves to run, gets the most out their body. but the training over many years can get to you. Carlos Lopes swore he'd never run another step after retirement and didn't. Sounds to me like he had a fulfilling career. 2:09 will never be something to sneeze at.

Letsrun posters: Also make fun of athletes when we don’t know who they are cause they aren’t super active on social media.

What are you talking about? I challenge you to find a sentence where I made fun of Scott Smith. Some people are really becoming snowflakes and you are one of them.
Who?

Sounds like he should of retired after graduating from University. Your average track fan barely recognizes someone like Galen Rupp. Pretty sure nobody knows who this hobby jogger is. 🤔
No, he shouldn't of. He would of been full of could ofs would ofs should ofs.
Both of you should be ashamed of your stupidity.
It's "should have", "would have", "could have".
How do you not know this?
I think Scott got the most out of himself in the marathon. 2:09 off modest PB's - 28:24, 62:34: How many others with these credentials ran 2:08?

I follow the sport rather closely and have never heard of him either. Where did he run that 2:09? In that fake “race” they called a “project.”
