Wearing shorts makes it easier to pee. Having said that, I wear Nike's 2-in-1 shorts. Less chafing with the convenience and look of shorts.

So why are you wearing running shorts on your Strava picture?
LOL stalker. My only pictures with shorts on them were in my first 6 months as a runner. It was before I had found the light
DUH, to be worn OVER tights. Man, it's so comforting that hobbyjoggers like us have finally taken over this board.

Running shorts: Cool, detached, aloof, free-spirited, cat like.
Half tights: Hot, intense, serious
The preference says a lot about the person.
LOL
I like your take!

A certain part of my body bleeds from chafe every time I wear tights, it is not a part that any guy would want to bleed.
The one thing properly-fitting tights do is prevent chafing.
Half tights are running shorts?
Its hard to have a fair & productive comparison unless you have experienced Good AND Bad version of each.
For shorts i have only tried 3diff ones. The first felt great, the next one slightly uncomfortable, another the lining was Way too abrasive. I since got rid of the 2nd two and grabbed a couple of the first.
I use half-tights for biking&spinning and have done a similar comparison to narrow it down to the best ones for ME.
If you have only experienced a good or bad version of either of these then i can Definitely see a strong(and narrow) opinion forming.
I guess what im saying is a big part of it is FIT, similar to shoes. Like a shoe could be highly regarded by some people but then you try it on and the toebox is too narrow so its a no-go.
Unless you're seriously packing, most runners have far too linear a profile to look good in half tights. Save it for race day.

If I could find black, drawstring, 9-inch half tights under 45$, that don't cut the blood supply off my normal sized ****, that aren't so thin you see the outline of my ****, I'd buy 5 pairs and throw away my running shorts.
As yet, they don't exist.

List the criteria in which you are judging
1) Comfort
2) Ability to hold things without them bouncing around
1) Comfort is subjective, so you might just be speaking for yourself. I am comfortable wearing shorts without underwear but don’t feel comfortable pulling on half tights without underwear.
2) I’ve never understood this thing about holding things together or bouncing. First, balls unlike breasts, don’t have much mass and by consequence bouncing momentum. Man has evolved to be able to do distance running naked, just not speed work. Second, all running shorts come with liners exactly to limit even that minimal bouncing annoyance. I don’t know why one would need more support. Do you have a pendulum down there that breaks through the liner?
Well fitting running shorts look just as good as half tights to me, and in hot summer, shorts win out on the cool factor.

I actually wasn't referencing the size of my schlong. I am talking about gels, keys etc.

Ah ok, well designed shorts don’t have the bouncing problem. I rarely carry anything on my runs that needs pockets anyway. On rare occasions, I carry a phone or an electrolyte tablet but they doesn’t bounce in good running shorts. I don’t carry keys anymore either coz my locks are electronic. Shorts, tshirt, watch, and a single AirPod in one ear, and a slowly dissolving electrolyte tablet inside my mouth is all I usually have on me during a summer run.

Because they aren't restrictive.
I think in time, more men will wear basketball shorts, for easy runs at least. Some do now including a few elite runners. Why would anyone want to prance around in public with short shorts on? If you stand still with those things on it looks like a mini skirt or you're transitioning (not that there's anything wrong with that).
Easy runs are relaxing. No need for speed. Anyways, I doubt basketball shorts would really slow anyone down much at all. What would the difference really be in a race? 1 second per lap? I know the blue jeans mile world record is like 406. Too many people are obsessed with "feeling" light and fast. It's all psychological.

If only they made those with a pocket large enough to hold a phone.
End of discussion...best half tights on the market
I like tights, half tights & shorty shorts, however I have really amazing looking legs and these things suit me. I think long 'shorts' look utterly ridiculous on any and everyone.
Oh yeah - shorts over tights? C'mon! Don't be ridiculous...

We have no problem with your prancing, regardless of chosen attire, because we all understand why you do it.
