I have no dog in this fight, and never heard of Alice Wright that I can recall, but maybe, since she's training for a marathon, and saw that there was a soft record that she could beat with a decent training run.
I mean, wouldn't you do that? Let's assume, hypothetically, that you're an American elite, that you have a marathon race coming up, that you would like to run a longish tempo run, and you also realize that the AR for 1-hour is really soft - so soft that you could beat it just by running a solid tempo run.
People on these boards always seem to get mad when somebody beats a record that is relatively obscure and relatively soft. I don't get it! That particular record that Alice Wright broke is still soft - but at least it's less soft than it was before.
Not a bad run and not easy to do. It served its purpose, get a decent workout, build confidence and build the brand. The video was a bit hard to take because of the lack of credible statements. No mention of the world bests, world rankings, and the reference to Molly Huddles effort was ridiculous. At one point they were saying she may beat Huddles mark. Huddle came through 10k in 32 high. Alice was 3 minutes behind half way through. Question, did the pacers finish the race and what were their totals?
This thread is like discussing someone's strava segment.
Is this a joke? Why are posting like this is supposed to be a big feat for a "pro" runner? 5:39 pace for 17K? The women's half marathon WR pace, 21.1K, is 4:47 mile pace. Why are we handing out ribbons for everything?
The top 5 US women average 5:18 per mile in their half marathons, again 21.1 K. Is this a farce?
No wonder I have never heard of her before.
There are plenty of British females who have averaged faster than a 5:39 pace over a 17k stretch in a marathon or half marathon. Just recently Eilish McColgan paced Molly Seidel to a 1:12:30 (5:32 pace) half marathon split in the 2020 London Marathon.

Hoping she has a solid race in Valencia after getting over done injury trouble the last couple years. Was excited to see her pro career after watching her at New Mexico 👍🏼
The injuries will continue until she sorts out the obvious eating disorder. Sad but true.
