This is just speculation, but now that he's back in the fold, even if it's too late to become a world beater himself, wouldn't it make sense if he's aiming to be good enough to pace their kid sister in training those day when the other brothers are maxing it and she can't keep up?
They are an admirably tight family after all - and his teenage rebellion phase is obviously over now that he's a father himself.
Oh, wait... that there might be a motivation in itself - if his own kids are to go down the elite aiming route one day it would make sense for him to learn as much as possible from own experience.
Wife is also running and she did HM in 90. But observing what it takes, could be they steer away from it..
