I note the BBC chose to bury Marc Scott's win, as a UK runner, pretty far down the report, perhaps becuase going big with a white male might raise issues on its inclusivity approach.

61.22 on a tough course is a decent time for a fun run though.

This race had elites a few year back. Then Mo started running it, so they would only pick runners that Mo could beat. As Mo slowed, these runners were getting slower and slower. Seems like they are continuing this trend by selecting runners that the top UK guy can beat.

Well Marc Scott is a local runner, so they should know who he is by now.

Before you all try to discover in these race results some nefarious plot to make us weaker and bring civilization closer to a final decline into savagery, understand that races have been doing this for decades. Why? Ask them.

Well he was 3 minutes behind Kipchoge in Tokyo, which is what I predicted after the trials.

I think it's a bit soon to do another Marathon though.

I guess you haven't noted that the UK media is a bit fixated about winning us open tennis

Great run by McColgan. Will be interesting to see her move up in distance considering she's said in the past she's a very low mileage runner due to injury issues (doesn't run doubles). Hope it works out!

He's from Yorkshire, it might as well be another country

My Strava says 574 foot of ascent. A lot of it from mile 10 onwards. Most people saying it was tougher than the normal course.

Northallerton to Newcastle 45 miles. I think they do know who he is, but they concentrate on human interest stories around the event.

The thing is, the GNR didn't have any big stars this year, which is why they focussed on Eilish McColgan so much. Her mum is still a big name in UK athletics. If Mo was there, the elite race would have been talked up a bit more. Scott is a fine athlete but he hadn't won a major race as a pro on the track or roads before yesterday, and no one cares about the NCAA in the UK. He made the Olympics, it just isn't the same as bringing back a medal. As I said, I think this is the best result of his career so far. Beating Rupp, Abdi, White, and Cheserek is great work, and he front-ran a lot of it. When he made the break on Cheserek, it was decisive. I was impressed

Most impressive run of the day - well clear of 3rd, and in her debut.

Marc Scott also has done well to get a win after his Antrim Coast time of 60:35 was only enough for 4th on 29th August... he wouldn't have wanted that turnaround to have been much shorter between the two half marathons.

P.S. not one of the leaders but good to see Josh Griffiths in the mix for top 15 ... but hope that he can keep improving in the longer stuff. Has had some impressive marathons for being a club runner and has potential to go quicker surely? Thought he would be making bigger inroads the past few years.

Good win for Scott, the best result of his career. Very good debut for McColgan, only below Radcliffe and her mum on the UK all-time list. Seidel looked fried, I'm still surprised she is doing New York. Rupp hit his level, he's a 60:30 guy now and 61 on that course is about where he should be.

McColgan is making a big mistake trying her hand at the marathon. She is built for the track, at most 5000m. Her running form will lead to injury over longer distances. I think 1500m is the event she will excel at.
