Yes, but it provides great content for his primary source of income, and the win helps solidify his relevance. It just helps push his platform forward! Another reason for someone to watch his channel, and that will help make those mortgage payments.
Until he hurts 38 years old and is no longer winning these events.
In 2011 Carpenter won PPM at 47yo, so there's that.

What were conditions like compared to the Ascent? That 2:06 is no joke in any weather.
How is that different from any mountain/trail/ultra race? It's always a couple of "good" runners, a shyte ton of hobby joggers who have lives, real jobs, kids, other hobbies, and a small number of people who just want to walk the whole thing for the LOLZ.
But yeah, this race gives him enough content for 10+ videos (he's already released 3 videos before the race), some more credibility, etc. it's all for his YouTube channel.
Until you do any type of mountain hillclimb that has a 4000' elevation gain along at altitude one shouldn't disregard how hard it is compared to flat sea level courses.

Yes, life is is a risk. He is betting on himself. He needs to grow his channel, which he is doing at a steady pace, but the faster the better since everyone's time running at peak is not infinite. Winning the Pike's Peak Marathon is only going to help grow his channel and brand, as will being a two time winner there, even if this happened to be his last win. It gives him more credibility. I have no idea what his financial situation is, so only he and those close to him know how much financial risk he currently has, but if worse comes to worse, he could always sell the house. Even if he overpaid due to the market, it is likely that he and spouse were 'overpaid' for their previous residence. I bet they keep the house, and in enjoy it though!
Kudos to him! Great ascent time too!
Heard some kids are getting their ice cream today.
If the high end estimate is remotely accurate, he's got generational wealth. More people are sitting on trust funds than you think, they just never speak of it. Even if his sponsorshorships get him 100k, he'd be sinking in that house.

Definitely true. A $1mil house. 4 kids. Wife doesn't work. 2 cars. Probably has awful and expensive health insurance as a self-employed person. State income tax of 5%. The numbers would look bad even at $200k/year.
The kids always are dressed in uniforms when they come home from school. They probably go to a private catholic school.
He mentions traveling Europe when he was young. Definitely money in the family.
He talks about how poor he's been even recently, trying to scrape together money month-to-month. That doesn't reconcile with the conjecture in this thread unless you think it was a ploy for sympathy.
No one is saying it's "easy". It's that the field is weak, plain and simple.
His chance of winning Pike's Peak is 80-90%. What's his chance of winning Chicago, NYC or Boston? Hint: not 80-90%, because the level of competition is so much higher.
Seth is exploiting his mountain running abilities at Pikes Peak. He will be the first to tell you he doesn’t have the elite speed to compete for podium finishes in major ‘Thons. He will be running NYC, so he’s not afraid of competing at a higher level.
The pandemic has limited the number of euro mountain runners competing at Pikes Peak the past two years. This is not Seth’s fault.
I’d like to see what Walmsley and another Kilian race would look like.
Crazy he says he spent $400 on gas last month. Dang. Lots of driving to the mountains, big carbon footprint. I was surprised he didn't translate he newfound wealth into a home in Buena Vista where he grew up (i.e., closer to mountains).

It will be interesting to see what he does once the 2004 OTQ standard is announced. I think he is running NYC again this year because of his worldwide viewer base identifies with NYC than with someplace like CIM and because of his disappointing result there in 2019 (although the result was what could have been expected after his crazy race in Amsterdam two or three weeks before). Once the standard is announced, I would love to see him chase it on a favorable course with a group of guys running his pace.
I meant 2024 standard.
People that worry about Carbon Footprints are the kind of people you wouldn’t want to invite over for Thanksgiving dinner, because they’d ruin the mood talking about the plight of Turkeys.

... could be talking about how he's trying to scrape together money to not need his parents' help. Because him being month-to-month reconciles even less with his preposterously expensive new house.
He's got a really expensive life/lifestyle. He likely doesn't make that much money. Square that for me.
