100% that these big major city fall marathons will be virtual.
The fall marathons in Asia are already being cancelled.
Lol and you losers also said two weeks to flatten the curve. Why don’t you just cancel everything for the next five years.
Start the campaign to postpone Paris 2024 now.

I'm just hoping they have summer marathons.

If I was bovada I'd have it like this:
Columbus Marathon?
YES: +1000
NO: -10000
Columbus is a Democrat stronghold, so I could see them canceling it. Cinci has the Pig but we'll see if they have it next spring ('22).
The paver would probably be really grateful if you do an out and back.
Paving 26 miles of forest road with bike would take forever.

When? Summer of 2030?
Sorry, Columbus is not a "major city" marathon akin to NYC, Boston, London, Tokyo, Berlin or even Chicago.
Will some US cities have marathons this fall. Yup. With the world majors happen...very unlikely and if they do they will be for elites only, virtual for everyone else.
Don't blame the race directors and the local officials, blame the fat azzed freedumb yokels that think vaccines is some way for the Illuminati to watch their every move (Don't worry, Jimmy Ray Bob, we already know that you just sit in front of the TV or your PC plus you haven't really moved in a vigorous fashion since you got cut from junior high football in 1982). Delta is spreading because these dumb twits insist that masks are gubmint overreach, Grandma was gonna' die soon anyway, and mah God given right to get hammered on Natty Lite and smoke ciggies in a bar next to the gun range is far greater than the public good.
When your state is recording thousands of new daily cases, the politicians are going to pull permits for any mass gathering of people like road races because that is the easy and expedient thing to do because marathon runners are not a significant voting bloc and they split 50/50 at the polls.
I’m blaming the losers who get their dopamine rush from telling everyone to wear a mask and get the monthly booster but still feel still say dumb things like “just postpone it ANOTHER year”. It’s Trey Jackson syndrome.
The funny part is there will def be people still in 2024 calling for "just a few more weeks of lockdowns to get things under control."

I agree with you on this re: anti-vaxxers. They are making it hard on everyone.
But at some point, marathons and such will either be summer-only or cease to exist, other than for the elites.
At least I'll build a base and do a few time trials like last year.

+1 Agreed
That was overly optimistic, but the 2 weeks was supposed to be a national lockdown. We didn’t do that. We did nothing to flatten the curve because reality now has a political bias.
Only two canceled thus far
When do you think the big ones will go virtual, if they do so. I assume race directors would want to be fair to runners to give them time to cancel hotels etc and also decide if they want to train for a virutal or wait till the spring
Sydney Marathon, due September 19th, has just cancel....errrm I mean offered runners an exciting opportunity to do the event virtually.
Chicago is requiring either proof of vaccination or a negative test to get into the expo.
They also have this in regards to if you do test positive:
"We are exploring several options to be accommodating for registered participants who cannot participate due to a positive COVID-19 test within 14 days of the event. We will provide an update regarding this in advance of the event."
So maybe they will give people who test positive a deferral or something?
I have reason to be optimistic it will happen, but they may have a mask mandate at the start like was suggested earlier.
Keep an eye on Vienna, currently slated to go ahead on Sept. 12. It'll be a bellwether for Berlin, London, and many others.

Judging by the way Delta has spread in the Southern states I would guess this is the likely outcome.

Kona Ironman WC, which was to be held in October has just been “moved” to February (you know, at the peak of flu season)…. They will then move it again to October 2022, I am sure
