They're training partners and close friends. Both of Somali origin
Makes sense.
Still seemed a bit odd. The guy kept doing it. Pretty sure the guy who got the bonze knew to kick at the end without prompting

Both trained by Gary Lough. Mo should have stuck with the marathon
I had the same thought while watching the race. It may have been a scenario akin to McGorty running the steeplechase instead of the 5k, where he figured if he couldn’t beat his own training partners he wouldn’t be competitive in the event. Of course, he probably wasn’t expecting his training mates to go 2-3 at the games.
McGorty could have done better than his 7th place at the Trials if he’d stuck with the 5k, and Farah would have had a good shot at top-8 in the Olympic marathon, which is better than watching from home.
Our commentator in Australia called it, 'doing a Dubler'.

Are you that dumb that you need it explained to you? This site has some really ignorant posters.
This forum has a high percentage of posters who need everything explained to them. Usually a few times.

It's OK, you never raced for a medal before, and probably you have no friends who would do the same for you.
Bashir Abdi had already twice been slightly dropped off the pack. Nageeye's encouragement made the whole difference between a medal and a 4th or 5th place.

They are every inch Dutch and Belgian. They know each other from races in Belgium & The Netherlands, they speak fluently the language and they both wanted to honour their countries with a medal.
I thought it was a pretty cool thing to do. Dude was probably tired as F and wanted to send it home in 4th. I know if I was that close to a medal and had any sort of encouragement like that it would likely make a world of difference in your psyche and ability to just keep suffering through it at the end.
Even better when your training partner is encouraging you to keep going! These two guys train with Mo Farah. Love seeing the teamwork to take down the fellow Kenyan.
